  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Smashes 11th home run in return

Perez went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 10-8 loss to the Royals. A day after beginning the game on the bench, Perez returned to the starting lineup Sunday and smashed his 11th home run of the season in the fifth inning. The outfielder has been productive all month long, as he's batting .308 with four home runs, eight RBI and nine runs scored across 21 games in August. Perez also started Sunday's contest as the leadoff hitter for the first time this year, and sticking in the top spot could help his fantasy value hitting in front of the likes of Riley Greene, Kerry Carpenter and Spencer Torkelson.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Stepping back into lineup

Perez (foot) will start in right field and bat third in Monday's game against the White Sox, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Perez was removed from Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Angels after fouling a ball off his right foot, but he was fortunate to avoid any structural damage. The Tigers still held him out of the lineup for Sunday's 9-5 win while he contended with some bruising and swelling, but he's ready to go as Detroit kicks off a three-game set in Chicago on Monday. Perez has wielded a hot bat thus far in August, posting a 1.231 OPS through his first eight games of the month.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Not ready to start Sunday

Perez (foot) is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. Perez will be on the bench for the first time since July 27 after fouling a ball off his right foot during Saturday's 7-4 loss. Manager A.J. Hinch said that the outfielder is already feeling better and could be available as a pinch hitter Sunday, per Evan Woodbery of MLive.com. With Matt Vierling (oblique) landing on the injured list Sunday, Javier Baez will cover center field in the series finale.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Continues surge Monday

Perez went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Monday's 6-3 win over the Twins. Perez hit his ninth home run of the season in the fifth inning, continuing his strong play as of late. The outfielder has gone 10-for-21 over his last six games with two home runs, two doubles, a triple and four RBI. Perez has also swiped two bases during the hot stretch, showing some nice fantasy versatility. The 25-year-old has been a bit up and down this year, though he seems to be trending upward recently, and he continues to see steady playing time in right field for a fairly reliable floor.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Runs wild in Tuesday's rout

Perez went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple, four runs scored, an RBI and two stolen bases in Tuesday's 12-2 win over the Diamondbacks. The 25-year-old switch hitter smacked a double in his first at-bat of the night and basically never stopped running. The four runs were a career high for Perez, while the multi-hit performance was his first since July 11, snapping an 11-game swoon in which he'd gone just 5-for-38 (.132) with zero extra-base hits. On the season, Perez is slashing .246/.298/.455 with seven homers, five steals, 22 RBI and 28 runs in 49 contests.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Resting Monday

Perez is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Pirates, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. He will cede his usual spot in right field to Zach McKinstry, who will occupy the position while Colt Keith covers third base. Perez had started in each of the Tigers' three games over the weekend against the Rangers, going 2-for-10 with a walk and a run.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Exiting lineup for series finale

Perez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Mariners. He'll give way to Matt Vierling in right field after starting the last four games and going 4-for-13 with two walks, three runs, one RBI and one stolen base. Though he appears to be facing competition from Vierling and Parker Meadows for one of two spots in the Detroit outfield against right-handed pitching, Perez has done well to maintain steady playing time since returning from the injured list in late May. Unless he's used off the bench Sunday, Perez will head into the All-Star break with a .266/.321/.516 slash line through 38 games.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Goes deep in loss

Perez went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double and a solo home run in Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Reds. Perez launched his fourth home run of the season in the fourth inning against Cincinnati starter Wade Miley. Since making his season debut May 27 following some missed time due to back inflammation, the outfielder has been a potent offensive performer, as he's now batting .302 with a robust .968 OPS. While Perez's success Sunday came against a southpaw, he actually has reverse splits over the past three years, giving him some fantasy appeal no matter who is on the mound for the opponent.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Homers in loss

Perez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 3-2 extra-inning loss to the White Sox. Perez singled in the second inning and later put the Tigers on the board with a solo shot in the seventh. The 25-year-old has been on a tear since returning from the injured list May 27, slashing .323/.364/.710 with three homers, three doubles, four RBI and seven runs across just 33 plate appearances. However, he may not be an everyday presence in the lineup given Detroit's strong complement of outfielders.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Not in Sunday's lineup

Perez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Perez started four straight games after being reinstated from the injured list Tuesday and will receive Sunday off after going 4-for-14 with a double, a solo homer and six strikeouts. Javier Baez is starting in center field for the series finale in Kansas City.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Homers in first game back

Perez (back) went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Giants. Perez was activated from the 60-day injured list earlier in the day, and he quickly made his mark in his first game of the season. The outfielder missed his team's first 55 games due to back inflammation, but now that he's made his return, he should see semi-regular time in the field, particularly with Parker Meadows (arm) and Matt Vierling (shoulder) still out. Javier Baez has played well in center field, however, and should continue to have a big role as long as he's hitting. It was Perez in center Tuesday with Baez shifting over to third base.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Reinstated, starting Tuesday

Perez (back) was activated from the 60-day injured list and is starting in center field and batting sixth Tuesday against the Giants, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. The 25-year-old has been on the shelf due to back inflammation for the first two months of the campaign, but he's ready for his season debut after going 4-for-18 with a .730 OPS during a six-game rehab assignment. Perez posted a .242/.300/.383 slash line in 112 games as a rookie last year and should see most of his playing time in center and right field. Matt Vierling (shoulder) was placed on the injured list in a corresponding move.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Gets another cortisone injection

Perez (back) was given the second of two scheduled cortisone injections Friday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Perez is recovering from lumbar spine inflammation and it's not clear when he will be ready to resume baseball activities. The outfielder is not expected back until sometime in May.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Moved to 10-day IL

The Tigers placed Perez (back) on the 10-day injured list Thursday. Perez spent most of spring training rehabbing his lower-back inflammation. Most recently, he received an injection in his back and has already been ruled out for at least another month by president of baseball operations Scott Harris. With Matt Vierling (shoulder) also out, Ryan Kreidler is the favorite to start in center field to begin Detroit's season.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Out one month with back injury

Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said Monday that Perez is scheduled to receive an injection in his lower back this week and will be sidelined for at least a month, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. He joins Parker Meadows (arm) and Matt Vierling (shoulder) on the shelf, as the Tigers' outfield depth will really be tested early on in the season. Recently signed Manuel Margot is a new option for Detroit and the club has also brought back Ryan Kreidler from minor-league camp.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Ruled out through Friday

Perez (back) isn't in the Tigers' Grapefruit League lineup Thursday against the Yankees and also isn't listed on their travel roster for Friday's game versus the Pirates, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Perez hasn't played since March 2 due to lower-back tightness and it would appear his return to action is not imminent. If healthy, the 25-year-old should be in line to play a lot early in the season while Matt Vierling (shoulder) and perhaps Parker Meadows (arm) are out. However, it would seem Perez's own availability for Opening Day is in peril.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Remains out Wednesday

Perez (back) remains out of the lineup for Wednesday's Grapefruit League game against the Rays, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. The expectation was that Perez would return to the lineup Wednesday after sitting out for over a week due to lower-back tightness. However, the 25-year-old remains out, and it's fair to question at this point whether Perez will have enough time to get ready for the start of the season. Opening Day is just over two weeks away and Perez has logged only 14 at-bats this spring.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Battling back tightness

The Tigers announced Friday that Perez is dealing with lower-back tightness but is expected to participate in full baseball activities this weekend, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Perez hasn't seen the field since Sunday due to the injury, but he appears to be trending in the right direction after taking a few days to rest up. If healthy, the 25-year-old has a strong chance to begin the season with a regular role for the Tigers since Matt Vierling (shoulder) will begin the campaign on the injured list.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Drives in runs Tuesday

Perez went 1-for-2 with two walks, a double and two RBI in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Rays. Perez had the game's key hit, delivering a ground-rule double in the bottom of the fifth inning that plated both Detroit runs. The 24-year-old rookie returned from the injured list on Sept. 12 after missing about a month due to an oblique strain, and he's seemingly settled back in as the team's regular right fielder in the middle of a playoff race. Like many young players, Perez has had some ups and downs during his debut campaign, though he's flashed signs of promise for future seasons.

  • Tigers' Wenceel Perez: Starting rehab assignment

Perez (oblique) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Toledo on Monday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Perez has been sidelined since Aug. 10 with a strained left oblique, but he took live batting practice over the weekend without issue to gain clearance to play in rehab games. The young switch-hitter shouldn't need too many rehab at-bats before returning to the Tigers' active roster.
