Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Out of Sunday's lineup
Moreno is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Reds.
Moreno returned from the 60-day injured list Friday and started the past two games behind the plate for Arizona, going 4-for-8 with a home run, a double and four RBI. James McCann will step in to catch for Zac Gallen in the series finale.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Homers in return
Moreno (finger) went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run in Friday's 6-5 extra-innings win over the Reds.
Moreno had been out since mid-June with a fractured finger. He delivered Arizona's only multi-hit effort in his contest as well as the team's biggest hit when he took Zack Littell deep in the third inning. Moreno will likely regain his spot as the Diamondbacks' top catcher, though it wouldn't be surprising to see him eased back into action after a long layoff. He's posted a .275/.328/.433 slash line with six homers, 23 RBI, 30 runs scored and a stolen base over 54 contests this season.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Activated from 60-day IL
The Diamondbacks activated Moreno (finger) from the 60-day injured list Friday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports.
Moreno wound up being sidelined for more than two months with a fractured finger, but he's ready to roll after going 8-for-20 with a pair of home runs in six rehab contests with Triple-A Reno. The 25-year-old will resume his role as Arizona's primary catcher.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Returning to lineup Friday
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that Moreno (finger) will be activated from the 60-day injured list and be in the lineup for Friday's game against the Reds, MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM reports.
Moreno caught back-to-back games on his rehab assignment with Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and Wednesday, which was the final hurdle for him to clear before rejoining the Diamondbacks' active roster. He's been sidelined since mid-June with a fractured finger.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Looks ready to return
Moreno (finger) started at catcher and went 1-for-3 with a solo home run for Triple-A Reno on Wednesday.
Moreno caught for a second straight game and homered in each contest. The Diamondbacks, who are off Thursday, planned this back-to-back action to be Moreno's final test before an activation from the 60-day injured list ahead of a three-game set against the Reds beginning Friday.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Final rehab test coming
Moreno (finger) will catch back-to-back games for Triple-A Reno on Tuesday and Wednesday, MLB.com reports.
The two-game set will serve as a final test before Moreno is activated. He's alternated between catcher and DH over his first four rehab appearances but hasn't caught a full nine-inning game. Presumably, in addition to catching back-to-back, the Diamondbacks want to see him on the field for full games in both.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Catches seven innings on rehab
Moreno (finger) caught seven innings for Triple-A Reno on Saturday, going 1-for-3 with a walk, a double and two runs scored.
Moreno followed up Saturday's effort by serving as the DH on Sunday and playing all nine innings. He's alternated catching and DH over four games on his rehab assignment, during which he's 4-for-12 with three walks and three doubles. The Diamondbacks likely want to see him catch a full nine-inning game before activating him, although given his nearly two months of recovery, the club may want Moreno to get more plate appearances regardless if he catches nine innings. Either way, he's on the verge of returning to the majors.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Serves as DH on rehab
Moreno (finger) served as the designated hitter for Triple-A Reno on Friday and went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
This was the second game of Moreno's rehab assignment after he caught five innings Thursday. The catcher missed nearly two months of action with a fracture of his right pointer finger and is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list anytime after Sunday.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Begins rehab assignment
Moreno (finger) started at catcher and went 0-for-3 for Triple-A Reno on Thursday.
Moreno started the clock on his rehab assignment, playing five innings behind the plate. He's currently on the 60-day injured list and eligible to return Monday, Aug. 18. Moreno's been out since the middle of June, so activation when he's first eligible seems unlikely.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Ready for rehab assignment
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday that Moreno (finger) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Reno, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Moreno is eligible to return from the 60-day injured list Aug. 18, and he looks like he'll have a shot to be activated on that date if all goes smoothly on his rehab assignment. The catcher was hitting .270 but provided just five home runs, one stolen base, 29 runs and 20 RBI through 53 games before he landed on the IL on June 19 due to a hairline fracture of his right index finger.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Playing in camp games
Moreno (finger) has recently resumed participating in simulated games at the Diamondbacks' spring training facility in Arizona, MLB.com reports.
Moreno has been on the shelf since the middle of June and will likely require a rehab assignment before being activated from the 60-day injured list. He's eligible to rejoin the Diamondbacks on Aug. 18, but it's not clear yet if he'll be a realistic option to return on that date.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: To resume hitting soon
Moreno (finger) has been cleared to resume baseball activities and could begin hitting by the end of the week, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports.
Manager Torey Lovullo noted Monday that Moreno has just begun his return to play progression, and that he's been cleared to take dry swings. If all goes week throughout the week, the backstop could get the green light to see live at-bats. An exact timetable for Moreno's return has yet to be established.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: CT scan on tap this week
Moreno will undergo a CT scan this week to check the healing of the hairline fracture in his right index finger, MLB.com reports.
If the scan shows that Moreno has made sufficient progress, he could be allowed to begin some baseball activities. Moreno was moved to the 60-day injured list over the weekend, making him ineligible to return to the Diamondbacks' 26-man active roster until mid-August.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Needs additional time to recover
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Monday that Moreno's recent CT scan showed his fractured right index finger hasn't completely healed, and the catcher will likely need another couple weeks to recover before resuming full baseball activities, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.
The hope was Moreno's scans would show enough improvement for him to resume baseball work, but that's not the case. He's been on the shelf since June 19 and remains on the 60-day injured list, which ensures he won't rejoin the Diamondbacks until at least mid-August. Jose Herrera and James McCann are likely to continue sharing the catching duties in Moreno's absence.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Moved to 60-day IL
Moreno (finger) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Friday.
Moreno was hit by a wild pitch June 6, and after attempting to play through the injury, he was placed on the IL on June 19. It was revealed shortly after that he sustained a hairline fracture in his right index finger. The catcher hasn't been cleared to hit or throw. The move will keep him sidelined until at least mid-August. Jose Herrera and James McCann should handle most of the catching duties while Moreno is out.

Diamondbacks' Gabriel Moreno: Starts running, receiving pitches
Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said Sunday that Moreno (finger) has resumed running on the bases and working on receiving, MLB.com reports.
Lovullo noted that Moreno hasn't yet been cleared to use his dominant hand after suffering a hairline fracture to his pointer finger back on June 6, so until the catcher is cleared to start throwing and hitting, his return from the 10-day injured list shouldn't be viewed as imminent. Moreno appears likely to remain out until around late July, leaving Jose Herrera and James McCann to handle catching duties for Arizona over the next few weeks.
