Butto entered the game in the seventh inning, retiring the side in order and throwing seven of his 12 pitches for strikes. The 27-year-old has yet to give up a run in three appearances since being acquired as part of the package from the Mets in exchange for Tyler Rogers. Butto has allowed one hit and one walk while striking out three over 3.1 innings with San Francisco. Overall, he now owns a 3.40 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and a 44:23 K:BB across 50.1 innings in 37 games between the Giants and Mets.
The Giants acquired Butto, right-hander Blade Tidwell and outfielder Drew Gilbert from the Mets on Wednesday in exchange for right-hander Tyler Rogers, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Butto was a weapon for the Mets in relief in 2024 but has regressed this season, posting a 3.64 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 41:22 K:BB over 47 innings. While Butto is likely to take Rogers' spot in the Giants bullpen, he has past starting experience and could be a rotation option if San Francisco opts to have him get stretched back out.

Mets closer Edwin Diaz blew a save in the ninth frame, so New York needed to go to a different reliever after scoring twice in the top of the 10th. Manager Carlos Mendoza initially called upon Jose Castillo, but he retired just one batter while allowing two Dodgers to reach base. Mendoza then turned to Butto, who got pinch hitter Will Smith to fly out before retiring Tommy Edman on a groundout with the tying run on third base. Butto came into Monday having given up four runs over four innings across his previous four outings, and he's not a threat to Diaz's role as closer, especially since the latter has been great this season -- Monday marked Diaz's first blown save of the campaign.
