  • Alexander Vizcaino: Non-tendered by Cubs

The Cubs declined to tender Vizcaino (personal) a contract for 2023, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

VIzcaino was part of the 2021 return for Anthony Rizzo, but things didn't pan out for him in Chicago. He battled an arm issue in 2021 and didn't return to the mound in 2022, although the exact reason for his absence last year was not disclosed.

  • Cubs' Alexander Vizcaino: Placed on restricted list

Vizcaino was placed on the restricted list for an undisclosed reason Saturday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Vizcaino was traded from the Yankees to the Cubs in July of 2021, and he posted a 5.95 ERA and 1.68 WHIP in 19.2 innings across 12 appearances (eight starts) in the minors last year. It's not yet clear why he was placed on the restricted list or when he'll be able to return.

  • Cubs' Alexander Vizcaino: Sent to Cubs for Rizzo

Vizcaino (arm) and Kevin Alcantara were acquired by the Cubs from the Yankees on Wednesday in exchange for Anthony Rizzo, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.

Vizcaino has been on the 60-day injured list all season while dealing with arm soreness, but he's pitched in five rehab games over the past couple weeks and appears to be nearing full health. The right-hander was one of the Yankees' top prospects, but he'll now join the Cubs with New York bolstering its lineup. He's likely destined for Double-A once activated from the injured list.

  • Yankees' Alexander Vizcaino: Starts up rehab assignment

Vizcaino (arm) began a rehab assignment with the Yankees' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate July 8 and has made two one-inning appearances for the club, giving up a run on one hit and three walks while striking out four.

Vizcaino was shut down for the first two months of the minor-league season while contending with right arm soreness. The 24-year-old is expected to settle at High-A Hudson Valley once he completes his rehab assignment, but for the time being, he resides on the Yankees' 60-day injured list after the big club chose to add him to the 40-man roster during the offseason.

  • Yankees' Alexander Vizcaino: Out with sore arm

Vizcaino has a sore arm and will miss the start of the minor-league season, Jim Callis of MLB.com reports.

Callis says the Yankees hope Vizcaino will join an affiliate (likely High-A or Double-A) in the near future, but given the nature of the injury, we should consider him out indefinitely. Vizcaino has velocity, athleticism and a nasty changeup all working in his favor. He could break out this year if he can get 100 percent healthy.

  • Yankees' Alexander Vizcaino: Sent to minors

Vizcaino was optioned to High-A Hudson Valley on Friday.

Vizcaino is on the 40-man roster, but he's yet to pitch above the High-A level and spent all of last season at the team's alternate training site. The right-hander has not made an appearance for the Yankees in exhibition play this spring.

  • Yankees' Alexander Vizcaino: Shielded from Rule 5 draft

Vizcaino was added to the Yankees' 40-man roster Friday.

Vizcaino spent the 2020 season at the Yankees' alternate training site, and he'll remain with the organization since his addition to the 40-man roster will protect him from the Rule 5 draft. The right-hander pitched 119.2 innings in 2019, recording a 4.51 ERA with 133 strikeouts.

  • Yankees' Alexander Vizcaino: Moved to alternate camp

Vizcaino was reassigned to New York's alternate camp site Thursday.

Vizcaino has yet to pitch beyond High-A ball, so he was never expected to compete for big-league playing time in 2020. The righty compiled a 4.51 ERA and 133 strikeouts across 119.2 minor-league innings in 2019.

  • Yankees' Alexander Vizcaino: Named to 60-man roster

Vizcaino will take part in the Yankees' summer camp as part of the team's 60-man player pool.

Vizcaino has yet to pitch beyond High-A ball, so he's unlikely to see major-league playing time this season. In 119.2 minor-league innings in 2019, the right-hander posted a 4.51 ERA and 133:40 K:BB.

Vizcaino was reassigned to the Yankees' minor-league camp Monday.
