White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Back up with big club
The White Sox recalled Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte on Wednesday.
Gonzalez has permitted two runs with a 6:4 K:BB over eight innings in his first five appearances at the big-league level. The 23-year-old will join the Chicago bullpen and the 26-man active roster as a replacement for Elvis Peguero (elbow), who was placed on the injured list.

White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Sent down to Triple-A
The White Sox optioned Gonzalez to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
Chicago will move Gonzalez and Bryan Hudson off the roster and replace them with a pair of fresh bullpen arms in lefty Cam Booser and righty Elvis Peguero. After being called up Friday, Gonzalez worked in relief in the first two games of the series, tossing three scoreless frames.

White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Back with White Sox
The White Sox recalled Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
Gonzalez will take Jonathan Cannon's spot on the active roster, joining the big-league bullpen for the first time since being optioned July 22. In three outings with the White Sox this season, the 23-year-old has allowed two runs on four hits with a 5:4 K:BB across five innings.

White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Returns to Triple-A
The White Sox optioned Gonzalez to Triple-A Charlotte on Tuesday.
The right-hander was called up by Chicago over the weekend but will head back to Charlotte with Davis Martin (forearm) returning from the injured list to start Tuesday in Tampa Bay. White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Summoned to big club
The White Sox recalled Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte on Saturday.
Gonzalez previously had a stint with the White Sox in late June and allowed two runs on three hits with a 5:4 K:BB over four innings spanning two outings. His call-up Saturday corresponds with rookie starter Shane Smith landing on the IL due to a left ankle sprain. Though Gonzalez has plenty of starting experience in the minors, all 16 of his outings in Triple-A this year have come in relief, and he'll presumably fill a role at the back of Chicago's bullpen while he's up with the team.

White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Returns to Triple-A
The White Sox optioned Gonzalez to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday.
The right-hander received his first call-up to the big leagues June 20 and allowed two runs with a 5:4 K:BB over four innings in two appearances. Gonzalez was optioned to create roster space for Jonathan Cannon (back), who was reinstated from the injured list to start Sunday against the Giants.

White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Officially brought up
The White Sox recalled Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
Gonzalez has yet to make his MLB debut. He'll provide some bullpen depth after Cam Booser (shoulder) and Davis Martin (forearm) were placed on the injured list. Gonzalez has struggled with his command throughout his minor-league career but has posted a solid 2.75 ERA in 19.2 innings with Charlotte this season.

White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Set for call-up
The White Sox are expected to recall Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte, Chase Ford of MiLB Central reported Friday.
Gonzalez has cruised to a 2.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 5-0 record in 19.2 innings of relief with Charlotte. The 23-year-old has yet to make his MLB debut. Gonzalez joined the White Sox organization in December as part of the trade that sent Garrett Crochet to the Red Sox.

White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Optioned to Double-A
The White Sox optioned Gonzalez to Double-A Birmingham on Thursday.
Gonzalez served up a couple solo home runs in his lone inning during Cactus League play. Acquired from the Red Sox this offseason, the 22-year-old Gonzalez will be deployed in Birmingham's rotation in 2025 and will be looking to bounce back from a 2024 campaign which saw him post a 4.73 ERA and 92:46 K:BB over 83.2 innings at the Double-A level.

White Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Traded to ChiSox
The Red Sox traded Gonzalez to the White Sox on Wednesday along with Kyle Teel, Braden Montgomery and Chase Meidroth in exchange for Garrett Crochet, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Gonzalez has a big arm but has had problems throwing strikes, having posted a 4.73 ERA and 92:46 K:BB over 83.2 innings at Double-A Portland in 2024. He is already on the 40-man roster but needs more seasoning in the minors if the White Sox intend to continue developing him as a starting pitcher.

Red Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Strong finish at Double-A
Gonzalez has a 1.84 ERA, 0.89 WHIP and 49:17 K:BB in 44 innings across his last 12 appearances for Double-A Portland.
Gonzalez had a rough stretch from May 10 through June 21, where he gave up 25 earned runs while walking 19 in 24 innings. However, he flipped the script in late June and into July, logging three straight scoreless appearances to start this run. He's been even better of late, going at least four innings in five straight outings, including seven Ks over five scoreless frames in his last start last Tuesday. Even when Gonzalez is going well, he'll walk a decent amount of batters, but his stuff is good enough to get by if he can just keep his walk rate in a manageable range. He is already on the 40-man roster, so Gonzalez could begin his big-league career out of the bullpen if there is a need in 2025, but he did enough to close this season to keep the long-term dream of starting alive.

Red Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Rough start to season
Gonzalez has an 11.12 ERA and 2.88 WHIP over three appearances (two starts) at Double-A Portland.
Control has long been a challenge for Gonzalez, and the issue is even more prevalent early in the 2024 minor-league season. He walked eight batters over his first two starts -- he lasted just two-thirds of an inning in his second start -- and has issued nine free passes overall in 5.2 innings. The right-hander had an encouraging third outing Sunday, when he walked only one over three scoreless innings as a piggyback starter.

Red Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Cut from major-league camp
Gonzalez was optioned to Triple-A Worcester by the Red Sox on Friday, Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe reports.
Gonzalez was added to the 40-man roster over the winter and is one of the club's better pitching prospects, but he was always going to head back to the minors for more seasoning. The 21-year-old should open the season in Worcester's rotation.

Red Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Gets spot on 40-man
The Red Sox selected Gonzalez to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald reports.
The 21-year-old right-hander worked to a 3.96 ERA and 168:70 K:BB over 111.1 innings (25 starts) this past season between High-A Greenville and Double-A Portland. Gonzalez needs to rein in his command, but the raw swing-and-miss stuff is certainly enticing and he is now protected from being plucked away by another organization in next month's Rule 5 Draft.

Red Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Earns organizational award
Gonzalez was on hand at Fenway Park to accept the organization's Starting Pitcher of the Year Award prior to Tuesday night's game, Ian Browne of MLB.com reports.
Organizational awards weren't on Gonzalez's mind at the end of April, a month he ended with an ERA of 15.58 over four starts. The right-hander worked to make adjustments and eventually earned a promotion to Double-A Portland, where he thrived. Overall, Gonzalez finished with a 3.96 ERA in 25 starts; after his promotion, he had a 2.42 ERA with 63 strikeouts over 48.1 innings (10 starts) for the Sea Dogs.

Red Sox's Wikelman Gonzalez: Thriving at Double-A
Gonzalez has a 2.45 ERA and 1.05 WHIP in eight starts since being promoted to Double-A Portland, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.
Gonzalez dominated in his most recent outing, throwing six scoreless innings while not allowing a hit until his final frame. Opponents are batting just .147 against the right-hander, who is averaging 11.6 K/9. One warning flag that jumps out are Gonzalez's walks; he's allowed more walks (22) than hits (20) in 40.1 innings for the Sea Dogs. The organization will have him work on repeating his mechanics in between starts to correct that issue. The Red Sox are expected to add him to the 40-man roster during the offseason and have him pitch in big-league camp during 2024 spring training.
