Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Undergoes Tommy John surgery
Roby underwent Tommy John surgery Friday, Katie Woo and Keith Law of The Athletic report.
Roby had landed on the 7-day injured list at Triple-A Memphis two weeks ago with an undisclosed injury, and as it turns out, he needed surgery on his pitching elbow that will likely keep him sidelined until the 2027 season. The righty had pitched well this season between Double-A Springfield and Memphis before getting hurt, collecting a 3.10 ERA and 87:19 K:BB over 78.1 innings covering 16 starts.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Lands on Triple-A IL
Triple-A Memphis placed Roby on the 7-day injured list Monday due to an unspecified injury.
Roby has been lights out lately at Memphis, allowing just two earned runs with a 21:5 K:BB over 21 innings covering his last four starts. The Cardinals haven't provided word on the nature of his latest health concern, but Roby's injury history is lengthy, and his issues have often involved his pitching shoulder. Added to the Cardinals' 40-man roster over the offseason, Roby has posted a 3.10 ERA and 87:19 K:BB across 78.1 frames between Double-A Springfield and Memphis in 2025.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Moves up to Triple-A
Roby has been promoted from Double-A Springfield to Triple-A Memphis.
Roby has bounced back from last year's injury-shortened, disappointing campaign by posting a 2.49 ERA and 57:11 K:BB over 47 frames covering 10 starts with Springfield. This will be the 23-year-old's first stint at the Triple-A level.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Optioned to Double-A
The Cardinals optioned Roby to Double-A Springfield on Wednesday.
Roby had a nice showing this spring, allowing four runs (three earned) with a 10:2 K:BB over nine innings of work. He was never going to make the Opening Day roster, though, after another injury-shortened season in 2024. Roby has some of the best stuff among the Cardinals' pitching prospects but has totaled only 96.2 innings over the last two seasons because of arm problems.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Added to 40-man roster
The Cardinals selected Roby's contract from Double-A Springfield on Tuesday.
Roby was limited to just 38.1 frames in 2024 due to injury and posted a 6.57 ERA in his 10 starts. However, the 23-year-old has displayed terrific stuff when healthy and the Cardinals didn't want to risk losing him in the Rule 5 Draft.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Activated Tuesday
Roby (shoulder) was activated from Double-A Springfield's injured list Tuesday.
Roby made three appearances with Single-A Palm Beach while rehabbing a shoulder issue that had shelved him since mid-May. He allowed three runs over five innings with a 6:3 K:BB during his rehab outings. Roby will return to Springfield to close out 2024, though it's unlikely he'll add many innings to his ledger before the minor-league season ends.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Ramping up throwing program
Roby (shoulder) is slated to ramp up his throwing program, Daniel Guerrero of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
Roby has been sidelined since mid-May with a right shoulder problem but would appear to finally be making progress. Between the injury and a 6.75 ERA in his first 33.1 innings before getting hurt, it's been a rough developmental year for Roby.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Shelved at Double-A
Double-A Springfield placed Roby on its 7-day injured list Saturday with an unspecified injury.
Roby contended with back problems in spring training, but it's unclear if he's dealing with a setback on that front or nursing a new injury. The 22-year-old right-hander hadn't pitched for Springfield since May 14 and accrued a 6.75 ERA, 1.66 WHIP and 33:12 K:BB in 33.1 innings on the season prior to landing on the shelf.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Set for spring debut
Roby (back) is scheduled to pitch an inning of relief in Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins, John Denton of MLB.com reports.
Roby is finally ready to make his spring debut after a bout with back stiffness resulted in him being scratched from his initial Grapefruit League appearance in late February. One of the prospects the Cardinals acquired last summer in the deal that sent Jordan Montgomery to Texas, Roby posted a 3.00 ERA and 0.75 WHIP while striking out 19 over 12 innings at Double-A Springfield upon joining his new organization. Considering that injuries limited him to just 52.1 innings in the minors last season, he may head back to Springfield to open the 2024 campaign.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Nursing tight back
Roby was scratched from his scheduled spring start Monday due to back tightness, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
Any spring injuries are concerning, but it doesn't appear to be a serious issue since Roby is still in consideration to start later in the week. The 22-year-old righty is one of the organization's top prospects and could make his big-league debut sometime in 2024 with a strong showing in the minors.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Ready for organizational debut
Double-A Springfield reinstated Roby (shoulder) from its 7-day injured list Monday.
One of the three pitchers the Cardinals acquired in the July 30 deal that sent lefty Jordan Montgomery and right-hander Chris Stratton to the Rangers, Roby looks set to make his St. Louis organizational debut this week. Prior to the trade, the 21-year-old had been on the shelf for the Rangers' Double-A affiliate in Frisco since early June with a right shoulder injury. Roby compiled a 4.68 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 45:10 K:BB in 42.1 innings with Frisco before landing on the IL.

Cardinals' Tekoah Roby: Goes to St. Louis in five-player deal
The Cardinals acquired Roby (shoulder), infielder Thomas Saggese and left-hander John King from the Rangers on Sunday in exchange for left-hander Jordan Montgomery and right-hander Chris Stratton, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.
Both Saggese and Roby were well-regarded prospects within the Rangers' farm system, though the latter inherently carries more long-term risk in fantasy as a pitcher who has already missed considerable time due to elbow and shoulder injuries during his minor-league career. The 21-year-old right-hander had been occupying a spot on Double-A Frisco's 7-day injured list since early June due to the shoulder issue, but the Cardinals must have been encouraged enough by his medical reports to take him on in the five-player deal. Prior to being shelved, Roby posted a 4.68 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 45:10 K:BB in 42.1 innings with Frisco.
