  • Nationals' Daylen Lile: Back in action Tuesday

Lile (knee) will start at designated hitter and bat cleanup in Tuesday's game versus Atlanta.

Lile missed the first game of the series Monday with a knee issue, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go Tuesday. The rookie has been one of the best hitters in baseball in September, slashing .378/.432/.757 with four home runs.

  • Nationals' Daylen Lile: Sitting out series opener

Lile (knee) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against Atlanta, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Lile will get at least one day off to heal up from the painful-looking injury he sustained while sliding into the left-field wall in pursuit of a flyball in the third inning of Sunday's win over the Mets. Following Lile's removal from the contest, the Nationals relayed that he had been diagnosed with a left knee contusion, so the team is seemingly viewing him as day-to-day for the time being. Robert Hassell will replace Lile in left field and will bat ninth Monday.

  • Nationals' Daylen Lile: Exits with knee contusion

Lile was removed from Sunday's game against the Mets in the bottom of the third inning due to a left knee contusion. He went 1-for-1 with a base hit and a run prior to his departure.

Lile sustained the injury when he slammed his knee into the left-field wall in foul territory while attempting to make a sliding catch, per Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post. After an extended delay, Lile was able to walk off the field under his own power, and X-rays on his knee have since come back negative. Though Lile appears to have avoided a serious injury, his availability for the final week of the season is in question.

  • Nationals' Daylen Lile: Plays hero in extras

Lile went 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI in Saturday's 5-3 extra-innings win over the Mets.

The rookie outfielder's blast generated maximum drama and excitement, as he ripped a ball off the center-field fence in the top of the 11th inning that ricocheted away from Cedric Mullins and turned into a game-winning, inside-the-park homer. Lile has been on a stunning extra-base hit surge in September, and through 19 games on the month he's slashing .370/.425/.753 with two doubles, four home runs and an incredible seven triples. His 11 three-baggers on the season -- in only 330 plate appearances -- have tied the franchise record set by Denard Span in 2013.

  • Nationals' Daylen Lile: Launches sixth long ball

Lile went 2-for-3 with a solo homer and a walk in Monday's 11-3 loss to Atlanta.

The Washington rookie drew the start at designated hitter and opened the game's scoring with a solo shot off starter Spencer Strider in the second. Lile has been scorching hot this month, hitting .423 (22-for-52) with three homers, 14 runs scored and nine RBI while becoming a staple in the Nationals' lineup. Overall, the 22-year-old is now slashing .292/.344/.470 with 45 runs scored, 31 RBI and eight steals across 310 plate appearances.

  • Nationals' Daylen Lile: Two more triples Friday

Lile went 2-for-4 with two triples, two runs scored and two RBI in Friday's loss to the Cubs.

He has an eye-popping seven three-baggers to lead all rookies on the season, despite playing only 70 games for the Nationals so far in 2025. Lile has caught fire after the All-Star break, and over his last 32 contests he's slashing .330/.368/.504 with 13 extra-base hits (seven doubles, five triples and a homer), five steals, 16 RBI and 19 runs.

  • Nationals' Daylen Lile: Back in action Friday

Lile (illness) is batting sixth as the designated hitter Friday against the Rays, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

The 22-year-old has been held out of the starting nine for nearly a week due to an illness, but he'll return to action following Washington's team day off Thursday. Lile has earned a regular place in the lineup versus right-handed pitching and has a .313/.370/.448 slash line through 19 games in August.

  • Nationals' Daylen Lile: Remains out Wednesday

Lile (illness) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Yankees.

Lile will be on the bench for a fourth straight game Wednesday while he recovers from an illness, though the left-handed-hitting outfielder may not have started even if fully healthy since the Yankees are sending southpaw Max Fried to the bump. With an off day on tap Thursday, Lile should have a good chance at being ready to go for Friday's series opener versus the Rays.

  • Nationals' Daylen Lile: Out again Tuesday

Lile (illness) remains out of the lineup for Tuesday's game versus the Yankees.

It's the second straight start he's missed due to illness. Lile could play Wednesday, but with the Yankees starting lefty Max Fried that day and an off day looming Thursday, the left-handed-hitting Lile might be held back until the weekend. James Wood, Jared Young and Robert Hassell will patrol the outfield for the Nationals on Tuesday.
