Brewers' Joey Ortiz: On track for minimum IL stay
Ortiz (hamstring) said Thursday that he's running at close to 100 percent and is on track for activation from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
It's not clear whether Ortiz will be asked to go out on a brief rehab assignment prior to being activated, but either way, he appears set to rejoin the big club for the start of its series next week against the Phillies. The shortstop has missed the last week of action with a left hamstring strain, with Andruw Monasterio stepping in as his primary replacement in the everyday lineup.

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Hopes to return when first eligible
Ortiz (hamstring) fielded grounders Monday and hopes to be activated from the 10-day injured list when first eligible Sept. 1, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Ortiz suffered a left hamstring strain last Thursday and was placed on the IL on Friday. He'll have to show he can ramp up his running without issue before convincing the Brewers he'll need only a minimum-length absence, but Ortiz seems to be doing well during the early stages of his recovery.

The Brewers placed Ortiz (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left hamstring strain, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.
Ortiz left Thursday's game against the Cubs after grabbing at his hamstring while running out a groundball, and further testing revealed he's dealing with a strain. Per McCalvy, it's a low-grade strain. The 26-year-old shortstop's spot on the 26-man roster will go to Jake Bauers (shoulder), who's being activated from the injured list in a corresponding move. Look for Andruw Monasterio and Brice Turang to handle most of the action at shortstop while Ortiz is idle.

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Dealing with hamstring injury
Ortiz has been diagnosed with a left hamstring injury after exiting Thursday's win over the Cubs in the fifth inning, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
The severity of the injury isn't yet known, but Ortiz will presumably undergo further testing. His status for Friday's series opener against the Giants is uncertain. Andruw Monasterio filled in at shortstop in place of Ortiz on Thursday and would be the logical candidate to step in at the position if Ortiz needs to miss time.

Ortiz exited Thursday's game against the Cubs in the bottom of the fifth inning with an apparent left leg injury, Sophia Minnaert of FanDuel Sports Network Wisconsin reports.
Ortiz grounded out to third in the top of the fifth and was grabbing at his left leg. He fouled a pitch off his left knee Tuesday, but it's unclear if the two issues are related. Andruw Monasterio has replaced Ortiz at shortstop for Milwaukee.

The shortstop kept the line moving from the ninth spot in the order, and Ortiz has three multi-hit performances in the last five games as he continues to climb out of an early-season hole. Over his last 20 contests, the 27-year-old is slashing .284/.314/.388 with four doubles, a homer, a steal, nine RBI and 12 runs.

Ortiz went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and two total runs scored in Saturday's 8-7 win over the Dodgers.
Ortiz opened the scoring with an RBI single in the third inning and added a solo shot in the eighth. That homer ended up being the difference, as the Dodgers' rally in the eighth came up a run short. Ortiz is 5-for-16 over his last five games and continues to see a majority of the playing time at shortstop. The consecutive benchings came after Ortiz had fallen into a 4-for-29 slump at the dish over his previous nine starts, which prompted Murphy to criticize the 26-year-old's plate approach when he spoke to McCalvy prior to Monday's game. The skipper didn't suggest that Ortiz was at any major risk of losing out on an everyday role, and the infielder should benefit from a matchup with a lefty (Clayton Kershaw) in his return to the lineup Tuesday.
