  • Yiddi Cappe: Cut loose by Marlins

The Marlins released Cappe on Friday, Francys Romero of BeisbolFR.com reports. Cappe received a $3.5 million bonus from the Marlins during the 2020-2021 international signing period, but he didn't develop as hoped, slashing just .250/.296/.354in five seasons. The 23-year-old reached the Double-A level for the first time in 2025, playing in six games for Pensacola.

  • Marlins' Yiddi Cappe: Failing to make impact at High-A

Cappe is hitting .234 with a .265 OBP, five home runs and 15 steals in 79 games for High-A Beloit. Even if we give Cappe the benefit of the doubt and look at how he performed after the weather warmed up in the Midwest League, his OPS since May 26 is .593, and he is an appropriate age (turns 21 in September) for High-A. It's looking like Cappe's strong showing (139 wRC+) in the Florida Complex League in 2022 is the outlier, as he hasn't been able to perform against more advanced pitching.

  • Marlins' Yiddi Cappe: Shows promise in pro debut season

Cappe finished the 2022 campaign by slashing .278/.299/.380 with three home runs and seven steals in 37 games for Single-A Jupiter. Those numbers aren't nearly as good -- particularly in the power department -- as the ones the 19-year-old shortstop put up in rookie ball before being promoted, but the ballpark at Jupiter has a long track record of muting power numbers. Cappe still showed strong contact ability (13.2 percent strikeout rate) and relevant speed at the higher level. He will probably begin next season back at Single-A, although a bump to High-A isn't out of the question.

  • Marlins' Yiddi Cappe: Making mark in low minors

Cappe has hit .315/.371/.503 with six home runs, seven steals and a 12:19 BB:K through 38 minor-league games this year. He started off in the Florida Complex League, but the 19-year-old recently moved up to Single-A, and the early returns have been impressive -- including more pop than anyone expected to see out of him at this point in his career. Through eight games and 35 plate appearances with Jupiter, Cappe has hit .355/.400/.452 without striking out a single time. The Marlins may just have struck gold with the young Cuban, but he's obviously got a long way to go before he cracks the majors.
