Astros' Christian Roa: Gets minor-league deal with Houston
The Astros signed Roa to a minor-league contract Friday and assigned him to Triple-A Sugar Land on Saturday, Matt Kawahara of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Roa elected to enter free agency after being designated for assignment by the Cubs on June 24. He'll catch on with the Astros' organization for the second time this season after inking a minor-league deal with the team in early January before being DFA'd in late April. All seven of Roa's major-league outings came out of Houston's bullpen, but he has spent the majority of the 2026 season in Triple-A, where he has a 9.39 ERA, 2.02 WHIP and 23:10 K:BB across 15.1 innings.

Cubs' Christian Roa: DFA'd by Cubs
The Cubs designated Roa for assignment Wednesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
The transaction makes space on the roster for waiver claim Bryse Wilson. Roa was a waiver claim himself last month, and he's turned in a 7.71 ERA and 20:7 K:BB over 11.2 frames at Triple-A Iowa.

The Orioles claimed Roa off waivers from the Twins on Sunday and optioned him to Triple-A Norfolk, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports.
Roa was designated for assignment by Minnesota on Wednesday but will remain on a 40-man roster as he heads to Baltimore. Prior to his brief time in the Twins organization, the right-hander made seven appearances for the Astros earlier this season and surrendered five earned runs with a 6:7 K:BB over 8.2 innings.

Roa (0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief Thursday against the Rockies, allowing a run on three hits across 1.1 innings.
Roa has made three straight multi-inning appearances out of the Astros bullpen, but the results have been far from encouraging. Over 5.2 innings, the right-hander has given up four earned runs on seven hits with a 4:3 BB:K while also hitting three batters. Roa owns a 4.91 ERA and 1.91 WHIP in five appearances and 7.1 innings since being recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land, and he could be returned to the minors soon as the Astros continue to try and patch together their staff in the wake of an injury epidemic.
