  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Makes second straight start

Barrosa started in center field and went 0-for-2 in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Minnesota. Barrosa made a second consecutive start in center field after the club placed Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) on the 10-day injured list Saturday. He's projected to miss between four and six weeks, which means an opportunity for the light-hitting Barrosa, who is slashing .181/.252/.352 over 119 plate appearances. Prospect Tommy Troy is also an option, but manager Torey Lovullo wants him to work with outfielders coach Dave McKay before entrusting him to center field, per Alex Weiner of Arizona Sports.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Homer, double in loss

Barrosa went 2-for-3 with a two-run home run, a double, a walk and three total runs scored in Saturday's 16-8 loss to the Twins. Barrosa is trending toward at least a strong-side platoon role in center field while Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) is on the injured list. Getting the start Saturday, Barrosa was able to make a rare impact with the bat in his first multi-hit game since May 1. The outfielder is batting just .184 with a .616 OPS, two homers, nine RBI, 14 runs scored, 10 doubles, one triple and no stolen bases over 116 plate appearances.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Finishes in center field Friday

Barrosa entered Friday's game as a pinch runner and finished out Arizona's 9-5 win over the Twins in center field. He went 0-for-1 in his lone plate appearance. Barrosa, who initially entered as a pinch runner for left fielder Lourdes Gurriel in the seventh inning, stayed in the game to play center field while Jordan Lawlar moved to left. An inning later, Lawlar was removed from the game due to a hamstring injury and potentially faces a second stint on the IL this season. If Lawlar misses time, either Barrosa or Tommy Troy could play center field.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Doubles twice in loss

Barrosa started in left field and went 2-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored in Friday's 6-5 loss to the Cubs. Barrosa had the most unlikely of doubles in the sixth inning when his attempted sacrifice bunt, which Chicago third baseman Alex Bregman thought was heading into foul territory, stayed fair and rolled into left field. The two-hit night snapped an 0-for-10 run for Barrosa, whose playing time has taken a hit since Lourdes Gurriel was activated off the injured list.

  • Blue Jays' Vladimir Guerrero: Should play through finger issue

Guerrero picked up a minor finger injury in Friday's loss to the Brewers, but Blue Jays manager John Schneider indicated after the game that the first baseman is expected to be in the lineup Saturday, Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reports. Guerrero's left index finger clipped Jorge Barrosa on a play at first base, but he remained in the game Friday and doesn't look like he'll miss any time. Toronto can ill afford to lose Guerrero given all their other injuries, and through 19 games he's slashing .319/.427/.420 with one homer and eight RBI.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Covers right field

Barrosa started in right field and went 1-for-4 with a triple and an RBI in Thursday's 7-1 win over the Mets. Barrosa filled in for Corbin Carroll (hip), who was held out for an injury that is not considered serious, per Steve Gilbert of MLB.com. The start was Barrosa's fifth straight and sixth over the last seven contests as he's covered all three spots in the outfield. Regular playing time became available when Jordan Lawlar (wrist) landed on the 60-day injured list. Barrosa is batting .217 (5-for-23) with one extra-base hit and three RBI through seven games.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Finishes off Mets

Barrosa went 1-for-3 with a walk, a double, two RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Mets. He got his second start in center field in place of Alek Thomas against a lefty. Barrosa finished off the day with a two-run double in the eighth inning for his first two RBI of the season. Jordan Lawlar's wrist injury has opened a path to playing time for Barrosa, who made his fourth consecutive start Wednesday.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Making fourth straight start

Barrosa will start in center field and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Mets. Barrosa will stick in the lineup for a fourth straight game, with the switch-hitting outfielder making two starts versus lefties and two versus righties during that stretch. With all of Pavin Smith (elbow), Carlos Santana (adductor), Jordan Lawlar (wrist) and Lourdes Gurriel (knee) on the injured list, Barrosa could have fairly clear path to regular playing time until the Diamondbacks reclaim some health. Barrosa has gone 3-for-16 with three doubles and three runs through his first five games of the season.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Sharing left field

Barrosa started in left field and went 0-for-3 in Saturday's 2-1 loss to Atlanta. With Jordan Lawlar (wrist) out for the next six-to-eight weeks, Barrosa is likely to share left field with Tim Tawa, who started there Friday. That arrangement should continue until Lourdes Gurriel (knee) is ready to return and play defense. Barrosa has made three starts so far and is 2-for-9 with two doubles and a run scored.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Inches closer to roster spot

Barrosa is expected to earn a roster spot after the Diamondbacks reassigned Jacob Amaya to minor-league camp Sunday, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. Barrosa, who is out of options, was expected to land a roster spot as one of four players seeking three available bench spots. Amaya's reassignment seemingly locks in Barrosa, Tim Tawa and Ildemaro Vargas for Arizona's Opening Day roster, barring any late claims or trades over the next couple of days. Barrosa celebrated the news Sunday by going 2-for-4 with a solo home run in a Cactus League game against San Diego. He's had a strong spring and batting .333 (14-for-42) with three doubles, two triples, three home runs and nine RBI over 15 spring contests. The switch-hitting Barrosa will operate as the team's fourth outfielder until Lourdes Gurriel (knee) is ready to return.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Out of options

Barrosa is out of minor league options and likely to claim a spot on the Opening Day roster, Steve Gilbert of MLB.com reports. The Diamondbacks' roster of position players is mostly set, but four candidates remain, including Barrosa, for three bench spots. That Barrosa is out of options is an advantage. He can play all three outfield positions and provide depth until Lourdes Gurriel (knee) is ready to go. Barrosa has been productive in the Cactus League, batting .324 (12-for-37) with three doubles, two triples, two home runs and eight RBI. Others in the mix are infielder/outfielder Tim Tawa and infielders Jacob Amaya and Ildemaro Vargas. Both Amaya and Vargas are non-roster invitees for whom the team would need to clear 40-man roster spots.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Part of platoon in LF

Barrosa went 1-for-4 with a run scored in Friday's 10-5 win over the Red Sox. The switch-hitting Barrosa started in left field for the second time in the last three games, with both starts coming against lefties. He singled and scored a run in both starts. The lefty-swinging Jake McCarthy manned the spot for the game in between against a right-hander. That platoon may be manager Torey Lovullo's plan going forward as he navigates life without Lourdes Gurriel (knee). The Red Sox have right-hander Lucas Giolito going Saturday, when McCarthy is expected to play left field.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Heads back to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Barrosa to Triple-A Reno on Monday. Barrosa will give up his spot on the active roster to first baseman/designated hitter Pavin Smith (oblique), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. After being called up July 25, Barrosa saw sparse playing time and struggled at the plate in his limited opportunities, going 1-for-21 with a run scored. The 24-year-old outfielder should return to an everyday role upon rejoining Reno.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Back with D-Backs

Barrosa was recalled from Triple-A Reno on Friday. Barrosa will join the active roster for the first time since early May, filling in for Alek Thomas (personal). Barrosa has three hits in 15 at-bats with the Diamondbacks this season, and he's slashed .300/.384/.436 in 408 plate appearances for Reno.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Optioned to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Barrosa to Triple-A Reno on Friday. The Diamondbacks decided to keep Tim Tawa around rather than Barrosa, who is 3-for-15 at the plate during his brief time in the majors this season. He'll play more regularly with Reno.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Starts against lefty

Barrosa started in center field and went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 8-2 loss to Atlanta. Barrosa made his first start (second appearance) since being called up from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. While primary center fielder Alek Thomas has hit well to start the season, including a small-sample 3-for-9 against lefties, the Diamondbacks remain reticent to use him against southpaws. The switch-hitting Barrosa will serve as the right-handed complement in center field. He had an .857 OPS over 105 plate appearances at Reno prior to his call-up.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Summoned from minors

The Diamondbacks recalled Barrosa from Triple-A Reno on Tuesday. It's the corresponding roster move for Jake McCarthy, who has been optioned to Reno. Barrosa got a cup of coffee last season with the Diamondbacks, going 3-for-17 at the plate in eight games. He will operate as a reserve outfielder in Arizona.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Optioned to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Barrosa to Triple-A Reno on Friday, Alex Weiner of ArizonaSports.com reports. Barrosa has slashed .320/.433/.480 in 11 Cactus League games this spring but has also struck out 10 times in 30 plate appearances. Given Arizona's outfield depth, the 24-year-old never had much of a chance to make the Opening Day roster.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Returns to Triple-A

The Diamondbacks optioned Barrosa to Triple-A Reno on Friday, Jesse Friedman of GoPHNX.com reports. The 23-year-old joined Arizona when big-league rosters expanded to 28 players Sunday, but he'll head back to Triple-A with Ketel Marte (ankle) returning from the injured list. Barrosa has a .470 OPS in eight big-league games this season and has a .269/.364/.423 slash line with six homers and 10 steals in 61 contests at Triple-A.

  • Diamondbacks' Jorge Barrosa: Swipes bag in win

Barrosa started in center field and went 0-for-4 with a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 8-7 win over the Giants. Barrosa, who made his first start since being called up as part of the September roster expansion, stole his first base as a major leaguer. The 23-year-old outfielder had double-digit swipes in four consecutive minor-league seasons prior to making his MLB debut in 2024. There could be more opportunities for the switch hitter, as Arizona placed Lourdes Gurriel (calf) on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, although Randal Grichuk and Pavin Smith will likely benefit the most from Gurriel's absence.
