  • Giants' Luis Matos: Stays hot in victory

Matos went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and an additional run scored in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Brewers. Matos launched a two-run homer to left-center field in the second inning, giving the Giants an early 2-0 lead. The 23-year-old outfielder added a single in the ninth before coming around to score the go-ahead run. He's been on fire since being recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday, going 8-for-15 with five runs scored, two home runs, two doubles, two stolen bases and a triple over his last four appearances. Overall, Matos is slashing .209/.255/.450 with 18 runs scored, 16 RBI, seven homers and four stolen bases across 137 plate appearances this season.

Matos will nab his fourth consecutive start after going 6-for-11 with a solo home run, two doubles, one triple, two walks, two stolen bases and two additional runs over the previous three contests. The 23-year-old appears to have overtaken Drew Gilbert as the Giants' preferred option in right field.

The 23-year-old also lined a double to right field in the ninth, and he has recorded multiple extra-base hits in back-to-back games. • Giants' Luis Matos: Recalled from Triple-A

The Giants recalled Matos from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday. Matos has slashed an ugly .167/.208/.351 in 120 games at the big-league level this season. He's starting in right field in Thursday's game versus the Padres and could see fairly regular reps against left-handed pitching.

  • Giants' Luis Matos: Forces extras with homer

Matos went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 5-2 extra-innings loss to the Dodgers. The Giants struggled to get any offense going until Matos delivered a game-tying homer in the ninth inning off Tanner Scott. The outfielder has gone 4-for-21 (.190) over seven games since returning to the big-league roster July 1 after a month-long stay with Triple-A Sacramento. Matos has struggled to a .172/.214/.387 slash line with five homers, 12 RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases over 98 plate appearances at the big-league level. He will likely continue to serve in a short-side platoon role while in the majors, most often spelling Mike Yastrzemski in right field when the Giants face a southpaw.

He has started each of the two games against a lefty but has only started one of four games against righties since his most recent promotion.

  • Giants' Luis Matos: Sent down to minors

The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. The move comes one day after Matos cranked a three-run home run in Sunday's win over the Marlins. He's slashed only .167/.211/.361 in 24 games this season and will look to get into a groove with regular at-bats at Sacramento.

Matos (shoulder) will bat sixth and play right field Sunday against the Athletics, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Matos was scratched from Friday's lineup due to discomfort in his right shoulder and didn't appear in Saturday's 1-0 win over the A's. However, he's back in the starting nine for the series finale. Matos was scratched from the lineup ahead of Friday's game against the Athletics due to right shoulder discomfort, Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News reports. The severity of Matos' injury remains unknown, though it's enough to warrant holding him out of action Friday. The Giants should provide some more details in the near future, and in the meantime, David Villar will take over as the designated hitter and bat seventh.

Matos has been used sparingly this season and is just 1-for-27 at the plate over his last eight appearances. • Giants' Luis Matos: Cracks first homer of 2025

Matos went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and a walk in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Astros. Matos drew the start in center field due to Jung Hoo Lee getting the night off against southpaw Framber Valdez. Matos cracked a 395-foot solo shot to left field in the second frame, which landed just above the yellow line and was initially ruled a double. The 23-year-old outfielder is expected to continue to be a lineup regular versus lefties, and in three outings this season, he's slashing .400/.455/.800 across 11 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Luis Matos: Remains on track for platoon role

Matos is expected to make the Opening Day roster and form a platoon with Mike Yastrzemski in right field, Maria Guardado of MLB.com reports. Matos has been impressive during Cactus League play, hitting .358 with two home runs, 11 RBI and two steals across 53 at-bats. The 23-year-old recorded a .213/.237/.347 slash line over 45 regular-season games in the 2024 campaign, and he struggled to stay settled at the plate, finishing with a 40.1 percent chase rate. However, Matos could be in line for an increased role in 2025 after bouncing between the big leagues and Triple-A Sacramento last season. "He is getting better pitches to hit, and that's always going to be, for him, the most important thing," manager Bob Melvin said. "Not chasing too much. ...We've seen him get a little bit deeper in counts. I think that is a progression for him."

  • Giants' Luis Matos: Back in majors

Matos was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday. Matos is not in Sunday's lineup, but he'll replace Mark Canha (thumb sprain) as a righty-hitting bench option. Matos is just 22 years old, but he was below league average at Triple-A (91 wRC+) and the majors (62 wRC+) this season.

The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday. Matos has gone 2-for-10 with a home run and two runs scored across four games since rejoining the Giants on Sept. 3. Rather than keeping six outfielders on their big-league roster, San Francisco will now send him back to Triple-A in favor of infielder Donovan Walton, who was recalled from Sacramento in a corresponding move.

He's struck out multiple times in all three appearances he's made since his return to the majors and won't have a shot at a bigger role unless injuries in front of him arise. For the year, Matos is slashing .211/.235/.340 with five homers, 25 RBI, 13 runs and a 5:24 BB:K in 153 plate appearances.

  • Giants' Luis Matos: Optioned to Sacramento

The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Matos will end up as the odd man out of the Giants' outfield after the team claimed Derek Hill off waivers from Texas on Tuesday.
