The Giants recalled Matos from Triple-A Sacramento on Thursday.

Giants' Luis Matos: Heads back to Triple-A
The Giants optioned Matos to Triple-A Sacramento on Monday.
Even after the Giants shipped Mike Yastrzemski to the Royals on Thursday, Matos was unable to take control of anything more than a short-side platoon role in the San Francisco outfield. The left-handed-hitting Grant McCray started over Matos in right field in both of the final two games of the weekend series versus the Mets, who sent right-handers to the mound in those contests. Matos should get the chance to play on an everyday basis at Sacramento.

Giants' Luis Matos: Not in Saturday's lineup
Matos is absent from Saturday's starting lineup against the Mets.
Matos will be on the bench to begin Saturday's game while Grant McCray starts in right field and bats ninth. Matos is off to a slow start at the dish since the All-Star break, having gone 3-for-20 (.150) with one RBI over eight games.

Giants' Luis Matos: Forces extras with homer
Matos went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 5-2 extra-innings loss to the Dodgers.
The Giants struggled to get any offense going until Matos delivered a game-tying homer in the ninth inning off Tanner Scott. The outfielder has gone 4-for-21 (.190) over seven games since returning to the big-league roster July 1 after a month-long stay with Triple-A Sacramento. Matos has struggled to a .172/.214/.387 slash line with five homers, 12 RBI, 11 runs scored and two stolen bases over 98 plate appearances at the big-league level. He will likely continue to serve in a short-side platoon role while in the majors, most often spelling Mike Yastrzemski in right field when the Giants face a southpaw.
