Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Working out, but still in protocol
Ruiz remains in concussion protocol but is continuing to take part in baseball activities, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
While the fact that Ruiz hasn't been shut down from activity is encouraging, the Nationals haven't provided much information regarding the extent of his workouts, nor has the team provided any indication of how close he might be to exiting concussion protocol. Since Ruiz landed on the injured list July 8, the Nationals have turned to Riley Adams as their primary option at catcher.

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Slowly resuming baseball activities
Nationals interim manager Miguel Cairo said Friday that Ruiz (concussion) has started participating in baseball activities, but the Nationals plan to ramp up his workload slowly, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Ruiz landed on the 7-day concussion injured list July 8, and Washington is taking a cautious approach with his return to the active roster. Ruiz doesn't have an official target date for his return and should be considered week-to-week as he continues to ramp up his baseball work.

Nationals' Keibert Ruiz: Back on concussion IL
The Nationals placed Ruiz on the 7-day concussion injured list Tuesday, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Ruiz originally landed on the concussion IL on June 27 after being hit by a foul ball while in the dugout. He was activated Friday, but renewed symptoms will force him to remain on the injured list through the All-Star break. Riley Adams will take over as the Nationals' backstop for now, and Drew Millas will come up from Triple-A Rochester to provide some depth behind the plate.

Ruiz is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
Ruiz will get a breather after he returned from the 7-day injured list Friday and started behind the plate in the first two games of the series with Boston, going 2-for-8 with an RBI. Riley Adams will step in as the Nationals' catcher Sunday.

The 26-year-old landed on the concussion IL on June 24 after being struck by a foul ball while in the dugout, but he's back on the active roster after missing little more than a week. Prior to the injury, Ruiz was scuffling at the plate through 15 games in June with a .167/.164/.204 slash line and just two extra-base hits.

Ruiz was moved to the 7-day injured list Friday after being diagnosed with a concussion, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.
Ruiz was struck by a foul ball while in the dugout during Monday's game against the Pirates. He was initially placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, but he was diagnosed with a concussion after seeing a specialist. By shifting to the 7-day IL, Ruiz is eligible to return Tuesday as long as he clears the league's concussion protocols.

Ruiz (head) was taken to a local hospital for a CT scan after leaving Monday's game against the Padres, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Ruiz was struck by a foul ball while in the dugout and sent for further evaluation after a lump formed on the left side of his head, per Zuckerman. Riley Adams would be in line for more chances behind the plate if Ruiz is forced to miss time.
