Cronenworth has missed just one game in 2025 that he has been healthy for. The last game the second baseman did not start was July 13, but he still entered off the bench for a plate appearance. The infielder has a .235/.344/.388 slash line with nine homers, 34 RBI, 38 runs scored and two stolen bases across 87 contests this season. The Padres were busy at the trade deadline but didn't acquire a middle infielder, so Cronenworth is likely to maintain a starting role at second base, though he made cede some at-bats to Jose Iglesias when the Padres face a left-handed pitcher.
Cronenworth is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Phillies.
Cronenworth has just three hits in his past 16 at-bats and will head to the bench for the final game of the first half. Barring an appearance off the bench Sunday, the 31-year-old will head into the All-Star break with eight home runs, 29 RBI, 29 runs and a .238/.352/.404 slash line through 269 plate appearances this season.

Cronenworth has been on the shelf since April 11 due to a non-displaced right rib fracture, but he recently received clearance for full baseball activity and took live batting practice at extended spring training Thursday. He'll likely remain in Arizona for at least a few more days to continue ramping up and could head out on a brief rehab assignment early during the upcoming week, but if all goes smoothly in his recovery, Cronenworth may be ready to return to the San Diego lineup by next weekend. Once activated, Cronenworth should supplant Jose Iglesias as the Padres' primary second baseman.
