  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Secures 11th win

Springs (11-11) allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings to earn the win over the Astros on Tuesday. Springs got an extra couple of days between starts this time and turned in a good performance to earn his first win since July 30 versus the Mariners. The southpaw had posted a 4.72 ERA over 40 innings during his eight-start winless stretch. He's at a 4.11 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 138:54 K:BB across 171 innings through 32 appearances (30 starts) this season. Given his recent additional rest, it's not guaranteed Springs will get another start in 2025 -- he's already 35.2 innings above his previous career high from 2022.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Bumped from Sunday's start

Springs will not start Sunday's game against the Pirates, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. Springs was never confirmed as Sunday's starter, but he did line up to take the mound on regular rest. It's unclear if he's being shut down, or if he's just being pushed back for extra rest. Mitch Spence will instead toe the rubber for the Athletics on Sunday.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Allows unearned run Tuesday

Springs allowed one unearned run on five hits and three walks while striking out three over four innings Tuesday against the Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision. Springs was able to pitch himself out of traffic in both the first and second innings, but the Red Sox were able to scratch a run across in the third thanks to a fielding error by Lawrence Butler. Springs tossed 68 pitches, which marks the first time he's thrown under 70 pitches since May 1. Tuesday was also the third time in his last seven starts that he's failed to reach five innings. He'll look to have a better outing this weekend when the team travels to face the Pirates in what lines up to be a much better matchup for the left-hander.

Springs (10-11) allowed five runs on eight hits and struck out six without walking a batter over five innings to take the loss Tuesday versus the Red Sox. The 32-year-old is now at a 4.28 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 132:49 K:BB through 162 innings over 30 appearances (28 starts) this season. Springs allowed one run on two hits and two walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Mariners on Saturday. The southpaw has had Seattle's number all year, allowing just four runs over 22.1 innings across his four games versus the Athletics' division rivals. He threw 47 of 74 pitches for strikes in this outing. Springs has also allowed a home run in six straight starts after giving up a solo shot to Randy Arozarena. On the year, Springs has a 4.15 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 117:46 K:BB through 145.1 innings across 27 outings (25 starts). He is projected for a home start versus the Rangers in his next outing.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Teases perfection in no-decision

Springs didn't factor into the decision Wednesday against the Nationals, allowing one run on one hit and no walks in six innings. He struck out five. Springs brought a bid for a perfect game into the sixth inning, but he was taken deep by Riley Adams to end those hopes. The left-hander hurled at least six innings for the fifth time in his last six starts, and he's become a fairly consistent fantasy play following a sluggish start to the year that saw him post a 6.04 ERA through April 26. Springs owns a 3.30 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 80:24 K:BB over 103.2 innings since the start of May, and he's next lined up for a favorable home matchup versus a Rays team with a .591 OPS against left-handed pitching since the beginning of July.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Rebounds with quality start, win

Springs (9-7) allowed two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five over six innings to earn the win over the Astros on Friday. Springs received ample run support as the Athletics' offense unleashed a six-homer barrage, including four by rookie Nick Kurtz. Springs did well to never let the Astros get close, giving up just a two-run home run to Zack Short in the fifth inning. This was Springs' third quality start in his last four outings, a span in which he's surrendered 11 runs and four homers over 22.2 innings, though he has a 16:2 K:BB in that span. Overall, the southpaw is at a 4.13 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 95:39 K:BB through 120 innings over 22 appearances (20 starts this season). He's lined up for a home start versus the Mariners next week.

For the season, Springs has a 3.92 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 81:38 K:BB with 17 homers allowed over 103.1 innings across 19 appearances (17 starts). Springs allowed two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four in 5.1 innings Tuesday against the Rays. He did not factor into the decision. Springs was hurt by the home run ball, with Christopher Morel and Brandon Lowe both taking him deep for solo blasts in the second and third innings, respectively. Springs has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in 11 of 12 starts dating back to the beginning of May, but he has just one win since May 18. Springs is projected to take the mound again next week versus Atlanta.

This was Springs' longest outing of the year, and he threw 69 of 104 pitches for strikes to earn his second quality start in a row. He seems to have benefited from making a couple of appearances behind an opener. Springs is now at a 4.24 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 72:32 K:BB over 87 innings through 16 outings (14 starts), and he's walked just three batters over 26 innings in June. • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Collects seventh quality start

Springs took a no-decision in Sunday's 3-2 win at Kansas City, conceding two runs on seven hits and no walks over six innings. He struck out two. The veteran lefty continues to heat up, as he now sports a 3.86 ERA over 18.2 innings in June after entering the month with a 4.72 mark. Both runs Springs allowed came in the third, as he managed to generate 11 whiffs in this 89-pitch performance. The 32-year-old has been a vastly different pitcher away from Sacramento this season -- he has pitched to a 3.83 ERA across 47 road innings opposed to a 5.51 ERA in 32.2 home frames. Springs will look to lower that home ERA in his next start, currently slated to be against the Guardians in Sacramento next weekend.

He's gone winless in five straight outings and now has a 4.64 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 64:31 K:BB through 73.2 innings over 14 appearances (12 starts) this season. Springs is expected to serve as the Athletics' primary pitcher in Monday's contest versus the Angels, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports. It's the second straight bulk relief appearance for Springs, who allowed four runs (three earned) while striking out seven across 6.2 frames last week against the Twins.

  • Athletics' Jeffrey Springs: Fans seven behind opener

Springs worked 6.2 innings in bulk relief Wednesday, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out seven batters in a no-decision. Justin Sterner opened the game for the Athletics and gave up one run in one inning, and he was ultimately tagged with the loss. Springs handled a starter's workload with 106 pitches (68 strikes) after entering in the second, and he got through three scoreless frames before serving up a two-run homer to Harrison Bader in the fifth. This was by no means Springs' finest outing, but he did notch his second-highest strikeout total of the season and bounced back reasonably well after yielding six runs over two innings during his previous start. It's not clear if the lefty will continue to work behind an opener or return to a traditional starting role, but regardless he's next lined up to take the mound on the road against the Angels.
