Top Tyler Krieger News

  • Indians' Tyler Krieger: Heads to MiLB IL

Krieger was placed on the 7-day injured list Friday due to a left quadriceps strain, Tribeinsider reports.

Krieger has struggled at both Double-A Akron and Triple-A Columbus this season, slashing .212/.282/.321 with the Rubber Ducks (45 games) and .196/.288/.283 with the Clippers (13 games). It's unclear as to when he picked up a quad injury, but he'll head to the shelf for at least the next week.

  • Indians' Tyler Krieger: Set to play in Glendale

Krieger was assigned to play in this year's Arizona Fall League, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Krieger made headlines by bypassing segments of spring training in March to play for the surprising Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic. He went on to spend the entirety of 2017 at Double-A Akron where he slashed .229/.307/.342 over 116 games. The shortstop's first run at MiLB's higher levels was a dud, so the extra reps in Glendale can't hurt Krieger.

  • Indians' Tyler Krieger: Chooses WBC over spring camp with confidence

Krieger believes playing in the World Baseball Classic will be more beneficial to him than remaining in Arizona for spring training with the Indians, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports

Krieger will miss valuable spring training time while playing in the WBC, but he believes the experience of playing alongside some of the world's best baseball players will be worth it. "I'm going to be getting good at-bats out there and getting ready for the season," Krieger said. "So once I get back from the tournament, which could be any time, I'll be prepared for the Indians just as well as if I was here." Selected by the Indians in the fourth round of the 2015 draft, Krieger began last season at Low-A Lake County and at High-A Lynchburg. For the season as a whole, the organization's No. 18 prospect batted .299 with five home runs, 58 RBI and 21 stolen bases.

  • Indians' Tyler Krieger: To play for Israel in WBC

Krieger will play for Team Israel in the World Baseball Classic, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports.

Krieger was the Tribe's fourth-round pick in 2015 and will make his debut on the world stage in March. The middle infielder from Clemson hit .299/.377/.417 with 21 steals (he was caught 15 times, too) last season. Krieger's still a few years away from being on the MLB radar, but his performance in the WBC is worth watching for those in dynasty leagues.
