  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Another rough outing

Castillo (8-7) took the loss Wednesday against the Phillies, allowing three runs on 10 hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out two. Castillo has now allowed nine runs on 19 hits across just eight innings in his last two starts after pitching to a 2.25 ERA in his previous eight outings (48 innings). Overall, Castillo's ERA sits at 3.57 with a 1.27 WHIP and 127:40 K:BB across 26 starts (146.1 innings). The 32-year-old right-hander will look to get back on track his next time out, currently scheduled to come next week at home against the Padres.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Hit hard in no-decision

Castillo came away with a no-decision in Friday's 11-9 win over the Mets, surrendering six runs on nine hits -- including three home runs -- and a walk over four innings. He struck out five. The ball was flying at Citi Field, as the Mariners set a club record with nine doubles, while the two teams combined for five total homers. Castillo did his part to add to the fireworks, serving up two longs balls to Francisco Lindor and another to Juan Soto. It's the second time this season he's been taken deep three times in the same game, but his 10.4 percent HR/FB rate on the season is actually his lowest mark since 2022. Castillo could have trouble keeping the ball in the park in his next start as well, which lines up to come on the road next week in Philadelphia.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Settles for no-decision Friday

Castillo didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 3-2 win over the Rays, giving up two runs on five hits over seven innings. He struck out five without walking a batter. All the damage off the veteran righty came on solo shots by Brandon Lowe in the first inning and Junior Caminero in the sixth, but all of Seattle's offense came on a three-run blast by Cal Raleigh in the eighth. Castillo delivered his 14th quality start of the year on 99 pitches (72 strikes), and he's allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight straight trips to the mound, posting a 2.25 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 45:7 K:BB through 48 innings over that span. He'll look to get back in the win column in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road next weekend against the Mets.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Labors in no-decision

Castillo did not factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-4 extra-innings loss to the Rangers, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk with four strikeouts over 4.1 innings. Castillo allowed both of his runs in the third inning and failed to complete five frames for just the second time in 23 starts, throwing only 51 of 87 pitches for strikes. Still, the veteran has now surrendered three earned runs or fewer in seven straight outings, a stretch that includes four wins and four quality starts. He'll take a 3.22 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 115:37 K:BB across 131.1 innings into a home matchup with the Rays next weekend.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Tosses seven sterling frames

Castillo (8-6) earned the win over the Athletics on Monday, allowing one run on five hits and no walks while striking out four batters over seven innings. Castillo was more crafty than overpowering in the outing, as he notched just six whiffs and four punchouts. The veteran right-hander allowed only six baserunners (on five hits and one hit batsman), with the Athletics' lone run coming on a fielder's choice in the sixth frame. This was Castillo's 13th quality start of the campaign, tied for 11th-most in the majors. He's putting together another steadily reliable season, posting a 3.19 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 111:36 K:BB through 127 innings spanning 22 starts.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Falls to Milwaukee

Castillo (7-6) took the loss Wednesday against the Brewers, allowing six runs (three earned) on 10 hits over five innings. He struck out seven. The 10 hits allowed matched a season high for Castillo, who would take his first loss since June 18 -- the right-hander had pitched to a stellar 1.46 ERA in four starts (24.2 innings) prior to Wednesday. Overall, Castillo sports a 3.30 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 107:36 K:BB over 21 starts (120 innings) this season. He'll look to get back on track in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week against the A's.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Picks up win in one-sided victory

Castillo (6-5) earned the win Friday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks over five innings while striking out six in the 12-3 victory over the Tigers. Castillo shined early, yielding just one earned run through the first five innings before running into trouble opening the sixth, allowing back-to-back hits and another run before being removed with a runner on third. The 32-year-old entered the matchup coming off his best start of the season and has now posted a 3.60 ERA with 33 strikeouts and 11 walks over his last six outings.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Solid in no-decision

Castillo didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Texas, allowing one run on seven hits and two walks with four strikeouts over six innings. Castillo pulled himself out of a rough patch Sunday, snaring a quality start and not allowing a home run. The 32-year-old had allowed 16 runs (14 earned) in 22 innings over his previous four starts. He gave up eight home runs during that stretch after having yielded merely four round trippers in his first 12 starts. On the year, Castillo owns a 3.55 ERA, and he's scheduled to face the Pirates next time out.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Allows five runs Tuesday

Castillo allowed five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out three over five innings in Tuesday's win over the Twins. He did not factor into the decision. Castillo was staked a five-run lead in the third inning and gave it all right back. Kody Clemens took him deep in the third before the Twins would tack on four more runs in the fourth. Castillo has given up a home run in four consecutive outings and has allowed at least seven hits in three of his last six starts. Castillo is winless since May 19 and will look to change that this weekend against the Rangers.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Turns in quality start

Castillo allowed two runs on three hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings in a no-decision Friday versus the Guardians. Castillo was able to limit the damage to back-to-back solo home runs by Nolan Jones and Steven Kwan in the third inning. After allowing just four homers in his first 12 starts of the year, Castillo has given up five long balls over his last two outings. On the positive side, Friday's effort was his eighth quality start, five of which have come over his last six games. Castillo has a 3.29 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 67:26 K:BB through 79.1 innings this season. The veteran right-hander is projected to make his next start at home versus the Red Sox.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Tagged for three homers

Castillo (4-4) allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits and struck out five without walking a batter over five innings, taking the loss Saturday versus the Angels. Castillo was able to limit the damage, as all three home runs he allowed were solo shots. However, the Angels' tying rally in the third inning yielded two unearned runs, and the Mariners failed to bounce back effectively after that. Prior to Saturday, Castillo had seemingly rounded into form with four straight quality starts, allowing just four runs over 25 innings in that stretch. He's now at a 3.31 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 60:23 K:BB over 73.1 innings through 13 starts, and he's given up seven homers this year. The 32-year-old is projected to make his next start at home versus the Guardians.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Blanks Twins in no-decision

Castillo didn't factor into the decision Sunday against Minnesota, allowing four hits and two walks with five strikeouts over six scoreless innings. No runs were scored until the seventh inning of Sunday's contest, leaving Castillo without the victory despite the excellent outing. The 32-year-old has now logged four consecutive quality starts, and he owns a 1.44 ERA and a 22:5 K:BB during that stretch. While his strikeout rate is down from 9.0 K/9 in 2024 to 7.2 K/9 in 2025, Castillo holds a 3.03 ERA, which would be his best since 2022. He's expected to pitch next weekend against the Angels.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Delivers quality start

Castillo did not factor in the decision during Sunday's loss to Houston. He allowed three runs on nine hits and a walk over six innings while striking out six. Castillo coughed up a pair of runs in the third inning and one more in the sixth. He recorded his sixth quality start of the year and third in a row, but it wasn't a very efficient one. He threw a season-high 114 pitches (72 strikes) and worked around multiple threats. Castillo generated 14 whiffs, including eight with his fastball that averaged 96.4 mph. He's sporting a 3.32 ERA with a 50:21 K:BB through 62.1 frames. Castillo is lined up to face the Twins at home next weekend.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Turns in quality start

Castillo allowed a run on six hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Yankees on Wednesday. Castillo wasn't at his sharpest but still kept the Yankees off the board until Jasson Dominguez's RBI double in the sixth inning. This was Castillo's fourth quality start of the season, three of which have come over his last four outings. The six strikeouts matched his season high, but he also continued the trend of walking at least two batters in every start so far. He's posted a 3.65 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 39:20 K:BB across 49.1 innings through nine starts in 2025. Castillo is projected for a much more favorable matchup on the road versus the White Sox next week.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Fires six scoreless frames

Castillo (3-2) earned the win against the Marlins on Saturday after giving up one hit and two walks over six scoreless innings. He struck out five. After giving up 10 hits to Toronto in his previous start, Castillo limited Miami to a third-inning single to secure his second consecutive victory. It's a small sample size of six starts, but the right-hander's average fastball velocity of 94.9 mph, and a 7.8 K/9 this season would be the lowest of his big-league career. Still, Castillo has been mostly effective early in 2025 with a 3.62 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB across 32.1 innings.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Struggles in Cincinnati

Castillo (1-2) yielded six runs on seven hits and four walks over 4.1 innings Tuesday, striking out three and taking a loss against the Reds. Castillo was uncharacteristically bad Tuesday, coughing up a pair of runs through four innings before the Reds piled on four more in the fifth. He threw 54 of 95 pitches for strikes and has failed to complete six innings in three of his first four starts. Tuesday's rough outing was the first time he gave up more than five earned runs in a game since Aug. 4, 2023. Castillo's 2025 ERA ballooned to 4.22 with an 18:10 K:BB through 21.1 innings. His next start is lined up to be in Toronto this weekend.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Saddled with loss

Castillo (0-1) was charged with the loss Friday against the Athletics after giving up two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out four over five innings. Castillo kept the A's off the board until the fifth inning, when a Lawrence Butler double followed by a Brent Rooker home run put his team in a 2-0 hole. Unfortunately for Castillo, the Athletics' pitching staff was able to keep the Mariners off the board for the whole game, so the 32-year-old will end up starting the year with a loss despite a respectable effort on his part. He'll hope for a bit more run support when the Tigers come to town next week.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Solid spring continues Saturday

Castillo didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's Cactus League game against San Diego after giving up two runs on five hits over 4.2 innings. He struck out four. After throwing three scoreless innings Saturday, Castillo watched Gavin Sheets go deep for one run and Connor Joe hit a double to plate another in the fourth frame. While Castillo has struggled with the long ball this spring, allowing three homers across 12.2 innings, he encouragingly hasn't yielded greater than two runs in any of his four Cactus League starts. The 32-year-old right-hander will have the benefit of working about half of his outings in 2025 at the pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park, where Castillo boasts a 2.89 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 279 strikeouts through 233.2 innings (39 starts) since joining the Mariners in 2022.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: On track with progress

Castillo appears to be making good progress in his recovery from a hamstring strain, and the Mariners remain cautiously optimistic that he'll be activated from the 15-day injured list when first eligible Monday, MLB.com reports. "Progressing as he should be," manager Dan Wilson said. "I don't think there's any expected date, right now, of his return, but progressing as he has. I know Luis is very diligent about getting his work in and trying to get healthy, and I think as far as we know right now, he's doing well." The veteran right-hander has been sidelined since Sept. 8, when he suffered the strain while ducking out of the way of a throw on a stolen-base attempt. Castillo's ability to make at least one more start down the stretch could be critical for the Mariners, who remain in contention for an American League wild-card spot entering the season's final week. Castillo has once again proven a consistent workhorse of Seattle's rotation this season, going 11-12 with a 3.64 ERA and 1.17 WHIP across 175.1 innings over 30 starts.

  • Mariners' Luis Castillo: Out with hamstring strain

Castillo was placed on the 15-day injured list Tuesday due to a Grade 2 left hamstring strain, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports. The right-hander already received a platelet-rich-plasma injection and hopes to be available after spending the 15-day minimum on the shelf. Even in a best-case scenario, Castillo will only be able to rejoin the Mariners for one or maybe two starts before the end of the regular season. Seattle is currently three games back of the final AL wild-card spot and is tied with two other teams, and the playoff positioning could affect how quickly the organization elects to bring Castillo back.
