  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Staying in Detroit

Flaherty will remain with the Tigers after electing not to opt out of his $20 million contract for 2026, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports.

Flaherty surely could have received more guaranteed money on the open market, but he has decided to stay put following an up-and-down 2025 campaign. The right-hander posted a 4.64 ERA across 31 regular-season starts for the Tigers, but he also fanned 188 batters over 161 innings. Staying put at Comerica Park and having what should be an above-average offense to support him help Flaherty's case for 2026.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Takes loss in Game 3

Flaherty took the loss in Game 3 of the ALDS against Seattle on Tuesday after giving up four runs (three earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out six batters across 3.1 innings.

The 29-year-old righty allowed just one man to reach base through two innings following a three-hour rain delay, but things took a turn at the start of the third frame after consecutive hits from Victor Robles, J.P. Crawford and Randy Arozarena allowed the Mariners to take a 2-0 lead. Flaherty came back out for the fourth frame but was quickly pulled after allowing a leadoff homer to Eugenio Suarez and walking Victor Robles, who eventually came around to score. The Tigers now find themselves on the brink of elimination, and Flaherty likely won't be available to pitch in relief for the rest of the series after needing 76 pitches to collect 10 outs Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Lined up to start Game 3

Flaherty is expected to draw the start on the mound in Game 3 of the ALDS against the Mariners on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

Flaherty will be back on the mound when the team returns to Detroit, looking to build off of his last outing in Game 3 of the Tigers' wild-card round series versus Cleveland. The right-hander tossed 4.2 innings, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four batters against the Guardians. Flaherty drew one start versus the Mariners during the regular season, pitching five innings and surrendering two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out seven batters July 13.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Four strikeouts in Game 3

Flaherty didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's 6-3 win over Cleveland, allowing one earned run on three hits and two walks while striking out four batters across 4.2 innings.

Flaherty turned in a very strong performance in Thursday's do-or-die meeting, giving up just one run on an RBI single from Jose Ramirez in the fourth inning. The right-hander wasn't able to make it through the fifth inning, however, which kept him from earning the win once Detroit took the lead on a sixth-inning homer from Dillon Dingler. Now that the Tigers have earned the right to face the Mariners in the ALDS, Flaherty figures to make at least one more start in the postseason -- possibly during Game 3 on Tuesday.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Can't stem historic collapse

Flaherty (8-15) took the loss Wednesday, giving up three runs on five hits over 4.1 innings as the Tigers were downed 5-1 by the Guardians. He struck out six without walking a batter.

The veteran righty didn't pitch poorly, tossing 55 of 83 pitches for strikes before getting an early hook, but Detroit's offense stayed quiet. Since an eight-run meltdown Aug. 24, Flaherty has delivered a solid 3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 23:9 K:BB over 24.1 innings in five starts, but that hasn't been enough to stop an epic collapse by the Tigers, who have squandered a 15.5-game lead in the AL Central and now sit one game back of the Guardians with four contests left on the schedule. Unless he's needed over the final weekend in an all-hands-on-deck scenario, Flaherty wraps up his 2025 campaign with a 4.64 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 188:59 K:BB though 161 innings.

  • Tigers' Jack Flaherty: Stuck with 14th loss

Flaherty (8-14) allowed one run on three hits across five innings to take the loss Wednesday against the Guardians. He walked four and struck out four.

Flaherty mostly pitched well, though he struggled a bit with command and also got zero run support in a 4-0 win for the Guardians. The veteran righty has been up-and-down all season, while his 14 losses are twice as many as he had in 2024 and easily a new career high. Flaherty has at least looked fairly sharp over his last two outings, allowing just one run across 10 innings while striking out 11. He'll look to carry some momentum into his next trip to the mound, which is currently scheduled for Tuesday against this same Cleveland squad.
