Braves' Grant Holmes: Optimistic about recovery
Holmes (elbow) believes he could be ready to throw simulated games by November, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
The right-hander will miss the rest of the 2025 season after being diagnosed with a partial tear of the UCL in his elbow, but Holmes is attempting to recover without surgery. "If everything goes well, I'll be throwing simulated games at the beginning of November," Holmes said Wednesday. The 29-year-old indicated that his decision was prompted by a lack of symptoms other pitchers typically report before undergoing Tommy John surgery, such as hearing a pop from his elbow due to a complete tear, or feeling numbness in his arm. Should his rehab not go according to plan, surgery this winter would still be an option, as he would miss the entire 2026 campaign whether he went under the knife now or in November.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Chooses rehab route with elbow
Atlanta manager Brian Snitker said Monday that Holmes has elected to treat his right elbow injury with rest and rehab rather than undergoing Tommy John surgery or another procedure, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Holmes has been diagnosed with damage to his UCL, but after weighing opinions from two doctors, he'll attempt to recover from the injury through non-surgical methods. Atlanta doesn't have a timeline for when Holmes will begin a throwing program, but if he hasn't shown enough progress early in the offseason, surgery would still be an option. Per O'Brien, even in the best-case scenario, Holmes won't be back on a mound until spring training.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Shifted to 60-day IL
Atlanta transferred Holmes (elbow) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Sunday.
Earlier Sunday, Atlanta placed Holmes on the 15-day IL due to right elbow inflammation, but the club's decision to shift him to the 60-day IL suggests that follow-up tests may have revealed a more significant injury. As a result of the transaction, the earliest Holmes could return to action is Sept. 26, so his season his most likely over. The transaction will open up a spot on the 40-man roster for right-hander Erick Fedde, whom Atlanta acquired from St. Louis on Sunday and could immediately slot into the rotation. Over his 21 starts prior to landing on the IL, Holmes posted a 4-9 record, 3.99 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 123:54 K:BB in 115 innings.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Headed for IL
Holmes is expected to be placed on the injured list due to right elbow tightness Sunday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.
Holmes threw 81 pitches over four innings in a start against Texas on Saturday, giving up four runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts. After the game, manager Brian Snitker said the right-hander dealt with elbow tightness during the outing and will be placed on the injured list to get checked out. Holmes' injury is another in what has been a devastating season for the team's rotation -- Chris Sale (ribs), Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) and AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow) are all also currently on the IL.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Moves to injured list
Atlanta placed Holmes on the 15-day injured list Sunday due to right elbow inflammation.
The right-hander exited his start in Saturday's 6-5 loss to the Rangers after four innings due to the injury, and he'll be sidelined for at least the next couple of weeks and potentially longer. Atlanta now has all five members of its Opening Day rotation on the IL, with Holmes joining Chris Sale (ribs), Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) and AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow) on the shelf.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Quality start in loss
Holmes (4-9) took the loss Sunday against the Yankees, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two.
While Atlanta failed to provide enough run support in an eventual 4-2 defeat, it was an encouraging bounce-back effort from Holmes after he gave up five runs in just three innings in his last start before the All-Star break. Overall, the right-hander sports a 3.81 ERA with a 1.32 WHIP and 121:52 K:BB across 111 innings this season. Holmes is currently scheduled to face the Rangers on the road in his next outing.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Dismal outing in St. Louis
Holmes took a no-decision Friday against the Cardinals, giving up five runs on nine hits and two walks in three innings. He struck out one.
It was one of the worst outings of the season for Holmes, who established a season low in strikeouts and yielded his most runs since May 7. Friday marked the 29-year-old right-hander's shortest appearance among his 19 starts, and the nine hits allowed set a season high. Holmes still owns a steady 3.77 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 119:50 K:BB across 105 frames ahead of the All-Star break, and his spot should remain solidified in Atlanta's injury-ravaged rotation.

While he was ultimately outdueled by Trevor Rogers in a 2-1 loss, Holmes delivered another strong performance Sunday. Overall, Holmes sports a 3.44 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 118:48 K:BB across 102 innings this season. He's currently slated to face the Cardinals on the road his next time out.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Dominant showing in no-decision
Holmes didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against the Angels, allowing three hits and three walks in six scoreless innings. He struck out 10.

The right-hander has managed to fan at least nine in four of his last seven outings, turning in two scoreless appearances during this span. Holmes has been a strong fantasy contributor with a 3.04 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 87:28 K:BB over his last 12 starts (68 frames), and his next assignment is slated for this weekend at home versus the Orioles.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Moved up to start Tuesday
Holmes has been moved up a day to start Tuesday against the Angels, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Gets no help in loss
Holmes (4-7) allowed two runs on six hits and three walks while striking out six over five innings to take the loss Thursday versus the Mets.
Holmes gave up a run in each of the fourth and fifth innings. It wasn't a bad performance from the right-hander, but Atlanta's offense mustered a pitiful three hits in the game, giving Holmes no support. He's allowed 11 runs (10 earned) in 25.2 innings across his five starts in June. Overall, he's at a 3.70 ERA, 1.26 WHIP and 103:42 K:BB through 90 innings over 17 appearances (16 starts) this season. Holmes is lined up to face the Angels early next week, which could be a two-start week for him.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Mixed results in win
Holmes (4-6) earned the win against the Marlins on Saturday, allowing five hits and five walks with five strikeouts over 5.2 scoreless innings.
Holmes kept the Marlins off the board despite issuing a season-high five walks, with all 13 of his swinging strikes coming on the slider. While the 29-year-old has just two wins over his past 10 starts, he's allowed three earned runs or fewer in nine of those outings. He'll take a 3.71 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 97:39 K:BB across 85 innings into a road matchup with the Mets next week.

Braves' Grant Holmes: Logs 15 strikeouts in loss
Holmes (3-6) took the loss Sunday against the Rockies, allowing three runs (two earned) on two hits and two walks over 6.1 innings. He struck out 15.
It was a dominant performance from Holmes, whose 15 strikeouts were the most in a game for any pitcher this season. However, a Ryan McMahon leadoff homer in the seventh inning proved to be enough to stick Holmes with a hard-luck loss in an eventual 10-1 Atlanta defeat. The 29-year-old right-hander sports a 3.97 ERA with a 1.17 WHIP and an impressive 10.44 K/9 through 14 starts (79.1 innings) this season. Holmes currently lines up for a road matchup with the Marlins his next time out.
