Mets' Ryne Stanek: Secures third save Tuesday
Stanek picked up the save in Tuesday's 3-2 win over the Angels, allowing two hits and no walks in a scoreless ninth inning. He struck out one.
Closer Edwin Diaz worked each of the past two days for the Mets, which opened the door for Stanek to handle Tuesday's save opportunity and register his third save of the year. As long as Diaz stays healthy, Stanek is unlikely to see very much ninth-inning work out of New York's bullpen. On the season, Stanek owns a troublesome 4.15 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 38:18 K:BB across 34.2 innings.

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Earns second save
Stanek allowed a hit in a scoreless inning and picked up a save against the Reds on Sunday.
Stanek worked around a one-out single to close out the 3-2 victory for his second save of the year. His other save came against Miami on April 7. He dropped his ERA to 4.28 with a 37:18 K:BB through 33.2 frames. Edwin Diaz was charged with a blown save after entering in the eighth inning Sunday.

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Notches seventh hold
Stanek struck out three in 1.1 perfect innings of relief Thursday to record his seventh hold of the season in a win over the Brewers.
The right-hander fired 12 of 15 pitches for strikes in a dominant performance. Stanek has picked up holds in back-to-back appearances, and while he remains prone to meltdowns he's been dialed in over the last couple weeks, posting a 0.00 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 11:2 K:BB in his last six innings. He's tied for third on the Mets in holds, behind Reed Garrett's 14 and Huascar Brazoban's 10, but Stanek could get bumped further down the pecking order for setup work if the team makes significant bullpen additions at the trade deadline.

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Collects first win
Stanek (1-3) struck out two in a perfect eighth inning Sunday to pick up the win over the Cubs.
With the score tied 2-2, the right-hander breezed through Chicago's 9-1-2 hitters on 11 pitches (eight strikes) before the Mets' offense erupted for four runs in the bottom of the frame. After a rough end to the month of April that included three straight losses and blown saves, Stanek has yet to allow a run in May, posting a 5:0 K:BB over five scoreless innings as he re-establishes himself as a reliable high-leverage option for the Mets.

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Another high-leverage collapse
Stanek (0-3) blew the save and took the loss Wednesday against the Diamondbacks, giving up two runs on three hits in two-thirds of an inning.
Entering the game with one out in the seventh inning to protect a 1-0 lead, Stanek gave up three straight hits to put Arizona ahead for good. The right-hander has fallen apart at the end of April, giving up at least one run in four of his last five appearances and taking both the loss and a blown save in three straight trips to the mound. The collapse has left Stanek with a 5.06 ERA, 1.69 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB through 10.2 innings on the season, and even with A.J. Minter (lat) on the shelf, the former may be removed from high-leverage duties until he turns things around.

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Another blown save
Stanek (0-2) was charged with the loss and a blown save Sunday against the Nationals. He allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits and a walk in one-third of an inning.
With Edwin Diaz apparently unavailable, Stanek got another chance in the ninth inning after blowing his last save opportunity Friday. Sunday's outing did not go any better for Stanek -- he surrendered the tying run on a pair of hits before the Nats scored the game-winner on a Pete Alonso error. Stanek's ERA now sits at 3.60 with a 1.50 WHIP and 10:6 K:BB across 10 innings as he falls to 1-for-3 in save chances.

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Takes loss, blown save
Stanek (0-1) was charged with the loss and a blown save Friday against the Nationals, allowing two runs on two hits in one-third of an inning.
With Edwin Diaz (hip) unavailable, Stanek was called upon to protect a one-run lead in the ninth inning. However, the right-hander gave up a leadoff triple to Dylan Crews, who'd score on a Jose Tena base hit, before the Nats rallied to score the winning run with two outs. It was the first rough outing this year for Stanek, who sports a 2.79 ERA with a 1.24 WHIP and 10:5 K:BB across 9.2 innings. He'll continue to serve as a primary setup option for the Mets when Diaz is healthy.

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Collects rare save
Stanek picked up the save in Monday's 2-0 victory over Miami, pitching a clean inning with a strikeout.
The veteran reliever secured the save efficiently, throwing just nine pitches -- eight of which were strikes -- to retire the side in order. Edwin Diaz is still firmly planted the Mets' closer but earned Monday off after firing 34 pitches over back-to-back outings the previous two days. However, this outing is a good indicator that Stanek would be next in line for save chances if anything happens to Diaz.

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Viewed as setup man
Stanek is expected to handle eighth-inning duties alongside A.J. Minter (hip) in front of Mets closer Edwin Diaz, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.
Stanek didn't exactly thrive during his time in New York in 2024 after being acquired from Seattle, posting a 6.06 ERA with a win and three holds in 17 regular-season appearances, but his 23:8 K:BB over 16.1 innings was enough to convince the Mets to bring him back on a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with incentives. The 33-year-old has been an effective setup man in the past, recording 38 holds with a 2.41 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 145:68 K:BB over 123 innings in 2021-22 for the Astros. If Stanek struggles in a high-leverage role this season, Reed Garrett, Dedniel Nunez (elbow) and Jose Butto are all candidates to step into his spot.

Mets' Ryne Stanek: Re-signs with NYM
The Mets signed Stanek to a one-year, $4.5 million contract Wednesday, Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports.
He can earn an additional $500,000 in incentives. Stanek was acquired by the Mets at the 2024 trade deadline, and between the regular season and postseason, he turned in a 5.18 ERA and 31:11 K:BB over 24.1 innings for New York. The right-handed reliever will help set up ahead of closer Edwin Diaz in 2025.
