  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Reinstated from injured list

The Brewers activated Zastryzny (ribs) from the 15-day injured list Friday. Zastryzny has been out since late June with a stress reaction in his ribs but is ready to go after overcoming a previous setback. He'll give manager Pat Murphy another left-handed option in the bulllpen.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Resuming rehab assignment

The Brewers sent Zastryzny (ribs) to Triple-A Nashville on Thursday to begin a rehab assignment. Zastryzny was pulled off his initial rehab assignment in late July following a setback with his rib stress reaction, but he's been cleared for game action again. The lefty reliever should be ready to rejoin the Brewers bullpen around mid-August if he can avoid another setback.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Pulled off rehab assignment

The Brewers returned Zastryzny from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Monday after he suffered a setback in his recovery from a rib injury, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Zastryzny made two rehab appearances with Nashville, yielding a total of four runs on four hits and two walks over 1.2 innings. The lefty has been out since late June with a rib stress reaction, and his return from the 15-day injured list doesn't appear to be imminent after he was unable to complete the rehab assignment. He's scheduled to undergo further imaging on his rib before the Brewers determine his next steps.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Heads to Nashville for rehab stint

The Brewers sent Zastryzny (ribs) to Triple-A Nashville to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday, Jack Stern of BrewerFanatic.com reports. Zastryzny has been on IL for the entirety of the month due to a ribs stress reaction. With his rehab assignment imminent, he may have a chance to be activated before the end of July.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Placed on 15-day injured list

The Brewers placed Zastryzny on the 15-day injured list Tuesday with a ribs stress reaction, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. The injury will cost Zastryzny at least the next couple weeks of action. Easton McGee has taken his spot on the roster and in the bullpen.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Serving as opener Monday

Zastryzny will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher in Monday's game against the Orioles, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Zastryzny will likely be limited to one or two innings before giving way to right-hander Quinn Priester, who is slated to work as the Brewers' primary pitcher in the series opener. The left-handed Zastryzny was acquired via trade last week and tossed two scoreless frames in his first appearance with Milwaukee.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Dealt to Milwaukee

The Brewers acquired Zastryzny from the Yankees on Friday in exchange for cash and selected him to the active roster. Zastryzny has spent all of 2025 in Triple-A, where he owns a 4.50 ERA and 1.33 WHIP across 12 innings. He turned in better results with the Brewers last season, giving up one run in 7.2 MLB innings before having his season cut short in late July due to elbow tendinitis. He'll look to repeat his success as he rejoins the organization, replacing Elvis Peguero in Milwaukee's bullpen.

  • Yankees' Rob Zastryzny: Sent to minor-league camp

The Yankees reassigned Zastryzny to minor-league camp Saturday. Zastryzny found success in a small sample of big-league action with the Brewers in 2024 (1.17 ERA, 0.65 WHIP in 7.2 innings), but he'll open the 2025 season in the minors with a new organization after struggling during spring training. Over his seven innings in the Grapefruit League, the veteran lefty surrendered four earned runs on seven hits -- including two home runs -- and two walks.

  • Yankees' Rob Zastryzny: Gets NRI deal

Zastryzny signed a minor-league contract with the Yankees on Monday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training. After being cast off the Cubs' 40-man roster earlier this month, Zastryzny elected free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment to Chicago's Triple-A affiliate. He quickly found work with the Yankees, who will give the 32-year-old lefty a chance to compete for a spot in the Opening Day bullpen this spring. Zastryzny made nine appearances in the majors with the Brewers in 2024, turning in a 1.17 ERA and 0.65 WHIP across 7.2 innings.

  • Cubs' Rob Zastryzny: Jettisoned from 40-man

The Cubs designated Zastryzny for assignment Tuesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports. The 32-year-old lefty will end up as the odd man out of a 40-man roster spot in order to make room for Ryan Brasier, who was acquired from the Dodgers on Tuesday. Zastryzny appeared in nine games for the Brewers last year, surrendering just one earned run in 7.2 innings before elbow tendinitis cut his season short in late July. He also finished the Triple-A season with a 3.03 ERA across 29.2 frames, so teams looking for bullpen help may be willing to take a flier on him.

  • Cubs' Rob Zastryzny: Claimed by Cubs

The Cubs claimed Zastryzny (elbow) off waivers from the Brewers on Monday, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports. It's a return to his original organization for Zastryzny, who was drafted by the Cubs and spent his first three major-league seasons in Chicago. The lefty reliever ended the season on the injured list with elbow tendinitis but looks to be healthy headed into the offseason.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Rehab paused, should throw soon

Brewers manager Pat Murphy said Wednesday that Zastryzny (elbow) experienced some "tightness" coming out of his most recent rehab appearance Aug. 13 but is expected to resume throwing in the coming days, MLB.com reports. Though he made just two appearances for Triple-A Nashville before being pulled off the rehab assignment, Zastryzny appears to have avoided a major setback and could be cleared for game action soon if he responds well to his upcoming throwing session. Before landing on the 15-day injured list July 26 with left elbow tendinitis, Zastryzny made nine appearances for Milwaukee and gave up one earned run on four hits and one walk over 7.2 innings.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Kicks off rehab assignment

Zastryzny (elbow) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville on Friday, striking out a batter while allowing two walks and one hit over a scoreless inning in his first appearance. Zastryzny may require another appearance or two in the minors before the Brewers bring him back from the 15-day injured list. Before being deactivated July 26 due to left elbow tendinitis, Zastryzny made nine appearances for the Brewers and posted a 1.17 ERA, 0.65 WHIP and 5:1 K:BB across 7.2 innings.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Placed on injured list

The Brewers placed Zastryzny on the 15-day injured list Thursday due to left elbow tendinitis. Zastryzny gave up his first earned run of the season during his last outing Wednesday, throwing 38 pitches while serving as Milwaukee's opener. He'll now be held out of action for at least the next two weeks as he manages an elbow injury. Janson Junk will come up from Triple-A Nashville to fill the open spot in the Milwaukee bullpen.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Opening Sunday's contest

Zastryzny will serve as the Brewers' opening pitcher for Sunday's game against the Nationals, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports. Zastryzny will get the opener assignment for the second time this season, after he previously tossed a scoreless inning as a starter in his Brewers debut back on July 1 in Colorado. Colin Rea had been listed as the Brewers' scheduled starter for Sunday and will presumably be in store for his typical workload while coming out of the bullpen once Zastryzny exits the contest, likely after one or two innings.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Contract selected

The Brewers selected Zastryzny's contract from Triple-A Nashville on Saturday. Zastryzny has spent all season with Nashville after signing a minor-league deal with Milwaukee during the offseason, putting up a 3.18 ERA and 0.93 WHIP alongside a 38:8 K:BB through 28.1 innings. The 32-year-old southpaw will now join the Brewers to replace Jared Koenig (forearm), who landed on the injured list, and Zastryzny will presumably work in middle relief during his stint with Milwaukee. Chris Roller was designated for assignment in order to open up a 40-man roster spot.

  • Brewers' Rob Zastryzny: Inks MiLB contract with Brewers

Milwaukee signed Zastryzny to a minor-league contract Tuesday with an invitation to major-league spring training, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports. Zastryzny posted a rough 4.79 ERA, 1.79 WHIP and 15:13 K:BB over 20.2 big-league innings with the Pirates in 2023 and also had an underwhelming 4.41 ERA in 15 appearances at Triple-A Indianapolis. The 31-year-old left-hander will operate as organizational relief depth for the Brewers in 2024.

  • Rob Zastryzny: Elects free agency

Zastryzny elected to become a free agent Friday after passing through waivers unclaimed. Zastryzny was designated for assignment by the Pirates on Monday, having registered a 4.79 ERA and 15:13 K:BB across major-league innings. The lefty reliever also had a 4.41 ERA in 16.1 innings with the club's Triple-A affiliate in Indianapolis.

  • Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Serving as opener Thursday

Zastryzny will serve as the Pirates' opening pitcher Thursday versus the Cubs. This will be Zastryzny's first major-league start since 2016, though he'll probably only work an inning or two before giving way to bulk pitcher Andre Jackson. Zastryzny, 31, has allowed 13 runs (10 earned) through 17 major-league frames in 2023.

  • Pirates' Rob Zastryzny: Outrighted to Indy

The Pirates outrighted Zastryzny to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday. Zastryzny was designated for assignment immediately after being activated from the injured list Friday, and he'll officially remain in the Pirates' farm system after clearing waivers. The 31-year-old reliever holds a 5.57 ERA in the majors since 2022, struggled during his rehab assignment with Indianapolis and no longer has a spot on the 40-man roster, so it's unlikely Zastryzny sees the majors again this season.
