Mets' Sean Manaea: Season-high eight Ks in second loss
Manaea (1-2) took the loss Thursday against the Nationals, allowing four runs on three hits and one walk in 4.2 innings. He struck out eight.
Manaea fanned a season-high eight, but he permitted at least four runs in his fourth consecutive start after giving up four runs across his first four appearances of 2025. The left-hander has yet to pitch at least six frames in any of his first eight outings, and he's watched his ERA for the season soar from 2.08 on July 28 to 5.15 following Thursday's showing. Manaea does have a strong 1.12 WHIP and 45:8 K:BB across 36.2 innings, which do offer some reasons for optimism ahead of a difficult assignment against the division-rival Phillies next week.

Mets' Sean Manaea: Fans seven in no-decision
Manaea didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 11-9 loss to the Mariners, giving up four runs on six hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out seven.
The veteran southpaw may have been lucky to limit the damage as much as he did, as four of the six hits off him went for extra bases, including homers by Mitch Garver and Cal Raleigh, and Seattle wound up setting a club record with nine doubles on the night. After giving up a single run in four straight starts after making his season debut July 13, Manaea has crashed back to earth in a hurry, getting tagged for 13 runs in 14.2 innings over his last three outings, albeit with an encouraging 15:3 K:BB. He'll try to get back on track in his next start, which is scheduled to come on the road next week against the Nationals.

Mets' Sean Manaea: Fades in no-decision
Manaea conceded four runs on six hits and two walks over four frames while not factoring into the decision in Sunday's 7-6 loss at Milwaukee. He struck out five.
The New York southpaw was cruising through the first three innings, allowing no runs on two hits while his offense supplied him with a 5-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth. Manaea conceded three runs in the fourth before being chased after allowing a leadoff single to Isaac Collins in the fifth. Collins then scored when reliever Reed Garrett gave up a homer to the next batter, William Contreras. Manaea tossed a season-high 87 pitches in this appearance, as the Mets continue to limit his usage after he was shelved until July 13 with elbow and oblique injuries. The 33-year-old has pitched to a 4.33 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 30:6 K:BB over 27 total innings and is tentatively slated to make his next start at home against the Mariners next weekend.

Mets' Sean Manaea: Falls apart in sixth inning
Manaea didn't factor into the decision Monday against Cleveland, allowing five runs on seven hits and no walks in 5.2 innings. He struck out three.
Manaea was cruising along through five shutout frames but came apart in the sixth inning, when Cleveland brought in five runs. The veteran southpaw set a season high in both runs and hits allowed, though it was at least somewhat encouraging to see him pitch a season-high 5.2 innings in his fifth start of the year. Manaea's season ERA soared from 2.08 to 3.52 on Monday, and he now holds a 0.96 WHIP and 25:4 K:BB over 23 innings. His next outing is slated for this weekend against the Brewers, who boast a .799 OPS versus left-handed pitching since the start of July.

Mets' Sean Manaea: Decent against former team
Manaea allowed one run on three hits and struck out four without walking a batter over five innings in a no-decision versus the Padres on Tuesday.
Manaea did fine, though his pitch count got up early and he exited after 86 pitches (64 strikes). He's at a nearly full workload at this point after battling an oblique strain and an elbow issue earlier in the season. He's allowed exactly one run in each of his four appearances (three starts), pitching to a 2.08 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 22:4 K:BB across 17.1 innings so far. The Mets will be balancing getting Manaea stretched out while battling the Phillies for the top of the NL East over the last two months of the season. The southpaw's next start is projected to be at home versus the Guardians early next week.

Mets' Sean Manaea: Pockets first win of 2025
Manaea (1-1) picked up the win Wednesday, allowing one run on two hits and two walks over five innings in a 6-3 victory over the Angels. He struck out five.
The veteran southpaw collected his first win of the season while lasting at least five innings for the first time in three starts since coming off the IL, building up to 82 pitches (56 strikes). Manaea has given up only one run in each of those outings, leaving him with a 2.19 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 18:4 K:BB through his first 12.1 innings of 2025. He'll look to keep rolling in his next outing, which is scheduled to come on the road early next week in San Diego.
