Urena has elected to enter free agency after clearing waivers Monday, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.
Urena was designated for assignment by the Twins on Friday, one day after being tagged for six runs and a loss in a spot start against the Athletics. Rather than remain in the Twins' organization, Urena will enter free agency and look to join a team in need of right-handed depth, most likely out of the bullpen. He's appeared in 13 major-league games (five starts) with four teams this season and has a 5.00 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 20:13 K:BB across 36 innings.

Twins' Jose Urena: Mops up in bulk relief
Rotowire
Urena struck out three and allowed two hits and one walk over 5.2 scoreless innings of relief in Friday's 7-0 loss to the Tigers.
With the Twins trailing 6-0 with one out in the third inning and runners on second and third, Urena was called upon in relief of opening pitcher Pierson Ohl to put out the fire. Urena induced a sacrifice fly to allow one run to score, and then got Colt Keith to line out to end the frame. Urena proceeded to retire 14 of the next 17 batters he faced to save the Minnesota bullpen and perhaps set him up for another starting opportunity or bulk-relief appearance next week while the Twins continue to lean on a three-man rotation at the moment and fill in the gaps as needed until two of Pablo Lopez (shoulder), Simeon Woods Richardson (illness) or David Festa (shoulder) return from the injured list. Urena had previously made a three-inning start in his most recent appearance last Sunday versus the Royals before shifting to the bullpen.

Twins' Jose Urena: Solid outing in win
Rotowire
Urena made his first start for the Twins and did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk over four innings against the Guardians. He struck out three.
Urena was a late replacement for Simeon Woods Richardson, who had his start pushed back due to an illness. Urena isn't likely to get another turn in the rotation, but he could be used as a bulk reliever or in an opener role, as the Twins' rotation and bullpen remain in flux after the team traded away five relievers Thursday.

Rotowire
Urena gave up two hits and struck out one in two scoreless innings of relief Wednesday during a 14-0 win over the Padres.
