Cubs' Zach Borenstein: Picked up by Cubs
Borenstein signed a minor-league contract with the Cubs on Wednesday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
The 28-year-old outfielder has yet to reach the big leagues. He's stalled out at Triple-A despite solid numbers at that level, as he's hit .260/.337/.476 there in parts of five seasons. A 29.8 percent strikeout rate at the highest level of the minors casts doubt on his ability to produce at the next level, however.

Mets' Zach Borenstein: Signs with Mets
Borenstein agreed to a minor-league contract with the Mets on Wednesday that includes an invitation to spring training.
Borenstein spent the entirety of the 2017 season with Triple-A Reno in Arizona's system, hitting .279/.351/.573 with 24 home runs and 91 RBI. The 27-year-old will have a chance to make the Mets' roster out of the gate, but will likely begin the year in Las Vegas.

Diamondbacks' Zach Borenstein: Goes 1-for-3 in loss
Borenstein went 1-for-3 with a double and a run in Triple-A Reno's 10-3 loss to El Paso on Friday. He's batting .240 in 25 at-bats this season.
Borenstein had a solid spring, batting .303 with four RBI and seven runs in 33 at-bats. Last year between Reno and Double-A Mobile, the 25-year-old hit .289 with 10 homers, 60 RBI, and 48 runs over 103 games. If the outfielder can produce another season with a high average at Reno, he could have a shot at being promoted to the big leagues at some point in 2016.
