Dodgers' Andrew Heaney: Booted from active roster
The Dodgers optioned Heaney to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.
Heaney had his contract selected Saturday and threw two innings of relief in his team debut, allowing three earned runs on four hits and one walk. Since Heaney wouldn't have been available for Sunday's regular-season finale versus the Mariners, the Dodgers opted to call up Landon Knack from Triple-A to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen.

Dodgers' Andrew Heaney: Contract selected
The Dodgers selected Heaney's contract from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Saturday.
Heaney secured a minor-league deal at the beginning of September after being cut by the Pirates, and he has since given up just one run while striking out 13 batters over 10 innings in Triple-A. The 34-year-old southpaw's turnaround has now bought him another chance to contribute in the majors as a long reliever during the final two games of the regular season. Will Klein was optioned to the Arizona Complex League to clear room on the active roster, and Nick Frasso (undisclosed) was moved to the 60-day IL to create a 40-man spot.

Dodgers' Andrew Heaney: Nabs MiLB deal with Dodgers
Heaney agreed to a minor-league contract with the Dodgers on Monday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.
Heaney was officially released by the Pirates over the weekend and has quickly caught on in a new organization. The left-hander will be assigned to Triple-A Oklahoma City for the time being, giving the Dodgers some swingman depth. Heaney posted a 5.39 ERA and 84:39 K:BB over 120.1 innings covering 23 starts and three relief outings for Pittsbugh.

Andrew Heaney: Enters open market
Heaney cleared waivers Saturday and was released by the Pirates, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.
Pittsburgh designated Heaney for assignment Tuesday, and the combination of his $5.25 million salary and 5.39 ERA through 120.1 frames this season makes it unsurprising that he went unclaimed on waivers. The 34-year-old southpaw will now attempt to latch on with another team, and he will need to do so before Monday in order to be eligible for the postseason.

Pirates' Andrew Heaney: DFA'd by Pittsburgh
The Pirates designated Heaney for assignment Tuesday.
Heaney was demoted to the bullpen earlier this month and will now lose his spot on the 40-man roster one day after allowing five earned runs while recording just two outs in a relief appearance in St. Louis. The veteran southpaw maintained a 3.33 ERA in his first 14 starts this season, so he could land on his feet somewhere, but Heaney's $5.25 million salary means he'll likely pass through waivers first before electing free agency.

Pirates' Andrew Heaney: Shifting to bullpen
Manager Don Kelly said Friday that Heaney will pitch out of the bullpen for the rest of 2025, Noah Hiles of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Heaney hasn't pitched into the sixth inning in seven consecutive starts and has topped 80 pitches just twice during that stretch. The left-hander will now serve as a bulk option out of the bullpen. It's unclear who the Pirates will slot into Heaney's spot in the rotation, but the veteran was slated to pitch Sunday. Heaney has a 4.99 ERA and 83:38 K:BB across 119 innings in 2025.

Pirates' Andrew Heaney: Miserable stretch continues in loss
Heaney (5-10) took the loss Monday against the Brewers, allowing six runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks in four innings. He struck out three.
It was Heaney's third straight start with fewer than five innings, and he gave up at least five runs for the fifth time in his last 10 outings. The veteran left-hander has thrown at least five frames on just just two occasions over that latter period, during which he owns a hideous 8.19 ERA, 1.72 WHIP and 24:14 K:BB across 40.2 innings. With a difficult task at Wrigley Field against the Cubs on tap for this weekend, Heaney doesn't set up as the most attractive streaming option for his next appearance.

Heaney did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 4-2 loss to the Giants, allowing one run on two hits and no walks with four strikeouts over 4.2 innings.
Heaney cruised through four innings before giving up a solo homer in the fifth. The veteran southpaw was lifted at 76 pitches to avoid a third trip through the Giants' lineup, marking the fourth time in his past five starts he's failed to complete five frames. He'll carry a 4.77 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 80:36 K:BB across 115 innings into a road matchup with the Brewers early next week.

Pirates' Andrew Heaney: Settles for no-decision
Heaney took a no-decision after throwing 3.1 innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out one, during Friday's 17-16 loss to the Rockies.
Despite getting a nine-run lead to work with before even taking the mound for the first time, Heaney was unable to ride that run support to a win, failing to reach the requisite five innings required in order to qualify and also allowing the first four runs of what would become a 17-run day for Colorado. The left-hander struggled to put away Rockies batters and keep his pitch count down, picking up his third start striking out one or fewer batters all season. The 30-year-old is up to a 4.89 ERA and 79 strikeouts in 110.1 innings pitched on the year. He is slated to face the Giants at home in his next start.

Heaney (5-9) earned the win against the Diamondbacks on Saturday, allowing two hits and no walks with four strikeouts over five innings.
Heaney threw 47 of 71 pitches for strikes, generating 10 whiffs and limiting the Diamondbacks to just three hard-hit balls. It was a much-needed effort for the 34-year-old, who had allowed 14 earned runs over nine innings in his previous three starts. Pirates' Andrew Heaney: Crushed for seven runs
Heaney (4-9) yielded seven runs on nine hits and two walks over four-plus innings Sunday, striking out one and taking a loss against the White Sox.
Heaney struggled right out of the gate Sunday, coughing up four runs in the first inning. All four runs came via the long ball; Miguel Vargas ripped a three-run shot before Mike Tauchman knocked a solo homer just two pitches later. The White Sox later scored another run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth, all being charged to Heaney. Heaney produced a 3.33 ERA through his first 14 starts of the year but has been tagged with 28 runs over his last 23.2 frames, driving his season ERA up to 5.03 across 102 innings. Heaney is 1-6 with a 7.58 ERA over his last 10 outings. Heaney is projected for a home matchup against the Diamondbacks next weekend.

Heaney (4-8) took the loss Monday against the Royals, allowing four runs on six hits and one walk over three innings. He struck out two.
Heaney threw 6.2 scoreless innings in his previous start, snapping a streak of three consecutive losses. However, the veteran southpaw ended up on the losing end Monday and didn't pitch into the fourth inning for the first time all year.
