  • Yankees' Max Fried: Gets back on track Friday

Fried did not factor into the decision in Friday's 1-0 loss to the Red Sox, allowing four hits and three walks with seven strikeouts over six scoreless innings. Fried racked up 19 whiffs on 99 pitches but got no help from the Yankees' offense. It was just his second quality start in six outings since the All-Star break. The southpaw will take a 3.14 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 148:40 K:BB across 155 innings into a home matchup with the Nationals next week.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Roughed up in 13th win

Fried (13-5) earned the win Saturday despite allowing seven runs on eight hits and a walk over five-plus innings in a 12-8 victory over St. Louis. He struck out six. The southpaw's first win in August came in rocky fashion as he surrendered homers to Masyn Winn and Nolan Gorman. Fried is mired in a rough stretch, carrying a 6.80 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across 41 innings over his past eight starts dating back to the beginning of July. Despite his recent skid, Fried has still delivered an impressive debut season in New York, logging 149 innings with a 3.26 ERA and 1.12 WHIP over 25 starts.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Falls to Houston

Fried (12-5) took the loss Sunday against the Astros, allowing four runs on eight hits and a walk over five innings. He struck out three. It was another shaky outing from Fried, who's stumbled to a 6.00 ERA over his last seven starts (36 innings). The left-hander still sports a 2.94 ERA on the season with a 1.10 WHIP and 135:36 K:BB across 24 starts (144 innings). Fried will look to right the ship in his next outing, currently scheduled for next week in St. Louis.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Shaky in no-decision Monday

Fried took a no-decision Monday against the Rangers, allowing four runs on eight hits and three walks in five innings. He struck out seven. After a phenomenal start to his campaign, Fried has begun to struggle quite a bit of late. The All-Star left-hander has walked multiple batters in four straight starts, and he's surrendered at least three runs in five of his last six outings. With a shaky 5.81 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 28:14 K:BB across his last 31 frames during that latter period, Fried will be looking to get back on track at home this weekend in a tough matchup versus the Astros.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Takes care of Tampa Bay

Fried (12-4) got the win over the Rays on Tuesday, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks while striking out nine in 6.2 innings. Fried allowed three runs through the first three frames, including a Jonny DeLuca two-run triple and a solo shot from Jonathan Aranda. Fried went on to retire 14 straight after allowing the home run and exited in the seventh after a two-out RBI double from Taylor Walls. Fried has issued multiple walks in four of his last five starts, but his nine strikeouts Tuesday tied for his second-highest total this season. Fried is sixth in the American League with a 2.62 ERA and 1.03 WHIP and lines up to take the mound next week against the Rangers.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Tamed by Toronto on Wednesday

Fried (11-4) took the loss against the Blue Jays on Wednesday, allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks while striking out three batters over 5.1 innings. There's no indication that the blister that caused Fried to exit after three frames in his previous outing was still bothering him Wednesday, but the veteran hurler nonetheless had one of his worst performances of the season. The six runs allowed by the left-hander tied a season-worst mark, though only four of those were earned as the Yankees defense had a poor day. Fried also failed to miss many bats, notching just six whiffs and three punchouts. He's now lost consecutive starts for the first time this season and will aim to bounce back the next time he takes the mound, which is tentatively scheduled to be early next week against Tampa Bay.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Lined up to start Wednesday

Fried (finger) is in line to start Wednesday's game in Toronto, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. Fried developed a blister on his left index finger during his final start before the All-Star break back on July 12 versus the Cubs, but the extended break has seemingly allowed him to move past the issue. After he resumed playing catch shortly after suffering the finger issue, Fried cleared up any lingering concern about his health by tossing a bullpen session in Atlanta over the weekend. The veteran southpaw heads into his start Wednesday having logged an 11-3 record with a 2.43 ERA and 1.01 WHIP in 122 innings over his first 20 outings of the season.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Hopeful to start next week

Fried (blister) is "hopeful" that he'll be able to start in Toronto next week, Erik Boland of Newsday reports. Fried has been playing catch since the blister first popped up in Saturday's start against the Cubs, and the team has not made an injured list move, but he has not done more than play catch. The lefty's status will likely be updated in a day or two if he is able to throw a side session, but as things stand, he should be considered questionable to make a start next week. Given that Carlos Rodon and Cam Schlittler could start the games Monday and Tuesday on plenty of rest, it would seem most likely for Fried to return in the final game of the series in Toronto on Wednesday.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Not starting this weekend

Fried (finger) isn't listed as one of the Yankees' scheduled starting pitchers in Atlanta this weekend, Chris Kirschner of The Athletic reports. Reliever Ian Hamilton is starting Friday for the Yankees, with Will Warren and Marcus Stroman set to take the ball Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Fried exited his final start before the All-Star break last Saturday due to a blister on his left index finger, and it appears the organization wants to give him some extra rest before making his first start of the second half. It's unclear when exactly the left-hander will next take the mound, but he lines up to pitch in Toronto early next week, assuming the blister doesn't cause further issues.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Blister improving

Fried (finger) said Sunday that he's uncertain if he'll be ready to make his first start following the All-Star break next weekend in Atlanta, but he noted that he's improving as he recovers from a blister, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports. Fried was pulled from his most recent start in Saturday's 5-2 loss to the Cubs ahead of the fourth inning due to a blister on his left index finger. The left-hander said Sunday that he's moving in the "right direction" and "getting better," but the Yankees might not have a better idea regarding his status for next weekend until he throws a bullpen session in the next few days. The three-time All-Star has enjoyed an impressive first season in New York, posting an 11-3 record, 2.43 ERA and 1.01 WHIP with 113 strikeouts over 122 innings in 20 starts.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Improves to 11-2

Fried (11-2) earned the win against the Mets on Sunday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk with five strikeouts over five innings. Fried cruised through four innings before allowing two runs during a 25-pitch fifth frame and was removed in the sixth after hitting Brandon Nimmo, who later came around to score. He logged five straight quality starts in a stellar June but has failed to do so in either of his July outings. Even so, the recently announced All-Star now leads the majors with 11 wins, sporting a 2.27 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 111:24 K:BB across 119 innings. He lines up for a tough home matchup with the Cubs next weekend.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: One bad frame in no-decision

Fried came away with a no-decision in Tuesday's 12-5 loss to the Blue Jays, giving up four runs on three hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out two. The southpaw had little trouble blanking Toronto through three frames, but Fried served up two homers in the fourth, including a three-run shot by Andres Gimenez that put the Yankees in a 4-2 hole. It's only the second time this season Fried's been tagged for multiple homers in the same start. He'll take a 2.13 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 106:23 K:BB through 114 innings into his next outing, which lines up to come on the road this weekend against the Mets.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Earns 10th win

Fried (10-2) earned the win against the Reds on Wednesday, allowing one unearned run on four hits and one walk with seven strikeouts over seven innings. Fried became the first pitcher to reach 10 wins this season, generating 19 whiffs on 106 pitches while recording his fifth consecutive quality start. He has now allowed three earned runs or fewer in 16 of his 17 outings and has completed at least seven frames eight times. The southpaw ranks second in the majors with a 1.92 ERA to go along with a 0.94 WHIP and 104:21 K:BB across 108 innings. He's slated to face the Blue Jays on the road next week.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Handed tough-luck loss

Fried (9-2) yielded two runs on six hits and two walks over seven frames Sunday, striking out nine and taking a loss against Boston. Fried coughed up a run in the first inning before Rafael Devers belted a solo shot in the fifth. Unfortunately for Fried, he was outdueled by Brayan Bello (seven scoreless innings) and the Yankees were shut out. Fried tossed 72 of 106 pitches for strikes and generated 15 whiffs. He's sporting a terrific 1.89 ERA with a 90:20 K:BB through 95 frames. He's turned in three straight quality starts after coughing up six runs against the Dodgers on May 30. Fried's next matchup is expected to be at home against the Orioles.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Goes seven innings in win

Fried (9-1) picked up the win Tuesday against Kansas City, allowing two runs on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts across seven innings. Fried furthered himself from his six-run start May 30, tossing a second consecutive quality start since the rough outing. The 31-year-old has completed at least seven innings in six of his 14 starts this season, as Tuesday's outing marked his fourth start with no walks allowed. On the year, Fried boasts a 1.84 ERA, a 0.93 WHIP and an 81:18 K:BB over 88 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to close out the two-start week with an outing in Boston on Sunday.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Dominates Guardians

Fried (8-1) picked up the win Thursday against Cleveland, allowing one hit and two walks with seven strikeouts over six shutout innings. Fried began the 2025 season with a 1.29 ERA across his first 11 starts before being tagged for six earned runs in five innings by the Dodgers in his most recent appearance. The 31-year-old southpaw bounced back in a big way Thursday, holding Cleveland to just one hit and firing his fifth scoreless start of the season. Fried has struck out seven or more batters in six of his 12 starts this season and boasts a 1.78 ERA across 81 innings. He's tentatively scheduled to face the Royals next time out.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Falters late to take first loss

Fried (7-1) allowed six runs on eight hits and struck out three without walking a batter over five-plus innings Friday, taking the loss versus the Dodgers. Fried entered the sixth inning up 5-2, but he yielded a second solo home run to Shohei Ohtani and wasn't able to recover. Jonathan Loaisiga and Tim Hill failed to stop the bleeding, and the Yankees didn't muster a response later in the game, leaving Fried with an ugly first loss of the campaign. This is the second time he's given up six runs this year, but the first was in his season debut, and only two of them were earned in that outing. Despite Friday's performance, Fried still has a 1.92 ERA, 0.97 WHIP and 70:16 K:BB through 75 innings over 12 starts this season. The southpaw will look to get back on track at home versus the Guardians next week.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Punches out seven in win

Fried (7-0) earned the win against the Rockies on Saturday, allowing one run on six hits and one walk while striking out seven across 7.1 innings. Fried needed only 83 pitches (57 strikes) to work his way into the eighth inning, generating 12 whiffs and inducing 10 groundballs in the process. It was Fried's first win since May 2 against the Rays, and the 31-year-old southpaw hasn't lost a regular-season game in his last 13 starts. He hasn't allowed more than two runs in an outing this season, and his 1.29 ERA (across 70 innings) is best in the majors among qualified starters. Fried will have his hands full in his next start, which is tentatively slated for next weekend on the road against the Dodgers.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Fans eight in no-decision

Fried didn't factor into the decision during Sunday's win over the Mets, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks with eight strikeouts over six innings. Fried's excellent start to 2025 continued Sunday, as he notched his seventh quality start in his last eight appearances while allowing no extra-base hits. The 31-year-old has yet to allow more than two earned runs in a start this season and has punched out eight or more hitters in three outings. Fried is tied for the league lead in wins (six) and sits atop MLB in ERA (1.29) among qualified players.

  • Yankees' Max Fried: Inefficient in no-decision

Fried didn't factor into the decision Tuesday against Seattle after allowing one run on four hits and two walks in five innings. He struck out five. Fried wasn't very efficient, throwing just 57 of his 91 pitches for strikes, and Tuesday marked just the third time this year that he didn't hurl at least six innings. Even so, the star left-hander has worked at least five innings while giving up one run or zero in seven of his last eight outings. Fried boasts a 1.11 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 52:13 K:BB over 56.2 innings ahead of his next scheduled outing versus the Rangers, who have a dismal .623 OPS against left-handed pitching through their first 42 games.
