  • Twins' Erasmo Ramirez: Loses roster spot

The Twins designated Ramirez for assignment Sunday.

Since Ramirez doesn't have minor-league options, the Twins had to move him off the 40-man roster to make room for right-hander Taj Bradley, who was called up from Triple-A St. Paul to start Sunday's game against the White Sox. After being summoned to the majors Aug. 1, Ramirez made nine relief appearances and submitted a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 5:2 K:BB in 11 innings. He could attract interest via waivers from teams looking to add another multi-inning option to the bullpen.

  • Twins' Erasmo Ramirez: Earns save Sunday

Ramirez picked up the save Sunday against the Guardians. Michael Tonkin began the ninth inning with a three-run lead but gave up two runs. Ramirez replaced him to retire the final two batters for a save in his first appearance of the season.

Cole Sands was thought to be Minnesota's new closer after the top five options in the bullpen were traded Thursday, but it was Tonkin who was given the first opportunity. Despite the save, Ramirez isn't likely to be used to close games. However, Sunday's game may be a sign that manager Rocco Baldelli will use a committee approach at the end of games with no set closer.

  • Twins' Erasmo Ramirez: Joins big-league roster

The Twins selected Ramirez's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Friday.

Ramirez will help stabilize the Twins' bullpen following the trade deadline. The 35-year-old right-hander pitched in seven games out of the bullpen for St. Paul, registering a 6.55 ERA, 1.55 WHIP and 12:3 K:BB across 11 innings of work.

  • Twins' Erasmo Ramirez: Debuts for Triple-A club

Ramirez (shoulder) was reinstated from Triple-A St. Paul's 60-day injured list Tuesday and struck out three while allowing two hits over two scoreless innings.

Ramirez had been out all season after suffering a significant right shoulder strain in spring training that ended his longshot bid for a spot in the Twins' Opening Day bullpen. After beginning a rehab assignment in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on June 20 and making three appearances, Ramirez proved his health and was given the green light to make his debut for St. Paul.

  • Twins' Erasmo Ramirez: Sent out of MLB camp

The Twins reassigned Ramirez (shoulder) to minor-league camp Sunday, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

As a non-roster invitee, Ramirez was already facing an uphill battle to win a spot in the Twins' Opening Day bullpen before he recently suffered a significant tear in his right shoulder. He'll likely report to Triple-A St. Paul but could be in store for a long-term stay on the injured list before making his 2025 debut.

  • Twins' Erasmo Ramirez: Out with shoulder tear

Ramirez has a "significant tear" in his shoulder and will miss an extended amount of time, Phil Miller of The Minnesota Star Tribune reports.

The Twins haven't provided an exact timeline for Ramirez's return, but it doesn't sound like he'll be back anytime soon. The 34-year-old righty signed a minor-league deal with Minnesota in the offseason, and once he's healthy he'll likely fill in as bullpen depth for Triple-A St. Paul.

  • Twins' Erasmo Ramirez: Gets minor-league deal

Ramirez agreed to a minor-league contract with the Twins on Saturday that includes an invitation to spring training, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Ramirez appeared in 13 games for the Rays last season, posting a 4.35 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 20.2 innings. He'll now attempt to win a spot in Minnesota's bullpen during spring training, though it's likely he'll begin the season at Triple-A St. Paul as organizational depth.

  • Erasmo Ramirez: Becomes free agent

Ramirez elected free agency Saturday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Ramirez was designated for assignment by the Rays in late August but remained in the organization and finished the campaign in Triple-A. The right-handed hurler logged a 4.35 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 15:10 K:BB over 20.2 innings while going 3-0 with one save in the majors last season. Ramirez worked as a starter early in his career but has been almost exclusively a reliever since 2019.

  • Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Remains in organization

Ramirez cleared waivers Tuesday and accepted an assignment to Triple-A Durham.

The right-hander was designated for assignment by Tampa Bay over the weekend, but he'll stick in the organization after passing through waivers unclaimed. Ramirez has made 13 appearances with the Rays this season and posted a 4.35 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 15:10 K:BB across 20.2 innings.

The Rays designated Ramirez for assignment Saturday.

Just five days after joining the active roster, Ramirez will now lose his spot on the 40-man after allowing two runs and striking out six batters while walking four in 4.2 innings. The 34-year-old cleared waivers and accepted an outright assignment to Triple-A when he was DFA'd by Tampa Bay in May, though he may be claimed by another bullpen-needy team this time around.

  • Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Returns to big leagues

The Rays selected Ramirez's contract from Triple-A Durham on Monday.

Ramirez will begin his second stint with the Rays of the season, as he was previously called up from Triple-A on April 20 and produced a 4.50 ERA and 1.06 WHIP over 16 innings before being cast off the 40-man roster about a month later. The Rays optioned lefty Jacob Lopez to Triple-A in a corresponding move to clear a spot on the active roster for Ramirez, who will likely fill a multi-inning role out of the bullpen.

Ramirez is expected to have his contract selected from Triple-A Durham on Monday, Ari Alexander of KPRC 2 Houston reports.

Ramirez was sent down in late May, but he'll return to the big leagues after producing a 3.20 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 44 strikeouts over 39.1 innings in 27 appearances with Durham following his demotion. • Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Picks up unconventional save

Ramirez recorded the final out in Thursday's win over Boston to earn the save.

Jason Adam began the ninth inning and was in line to earn the save, but he was forced to leave the game after the Rays exceeded the limit for mound visits. Ramirez then entered the contest to record the final out with runners on first and third. He hasn't worked many high-leverage situations this season and isn't likely to see many moving forward given the depth of Tampa Bay's bullpen.

  • Rays' Erasmo Ramirez: Earns win in long relief

Ramirez (2-0) walked one and struck out one across three scoreless innings to earn the win Monday against the White Sox.

Ramirez followed starter Tyler Alexander into the game in the fifth inning and turned in his second consecutive scoreless appearance. Ramirez has worked primarily in long relief since being recalled to the Rays on April 21, as he's completed at least two frames in four of his six outings. Despite limited strikeout upside -- he has eight punchouts across 11.1 innings of work -- he could be in position to earn more wins than a traditional reliever.

The 33-year-old righty will likely pitch primarily in low-leverage situations after turning in a 6.41 ERA in the majors last season, and he'll take the place of Jacob Lopez, who was optioned to Durham in a corresponding move.
