Padres' Yu Darvish: Strong in win over Dodgers
Darvish (3-3) allowed one run on one hit and one walk while striking out five over six innings to earn the win over the Dodgers on Friday.
Darvish gave up four runs over four innings against the Dodgers in his previous start, but he rebounded with an excellent outing for his third quality start of the year. The lone run he gave up came on an Alex Freeland solo home run in the third inning. Darvish hasn't lost in five starts, allowing nine runs (including five homers) over 27 innings in that span. Overall, he still has a 5.36 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 39:14 K:BB through 43.2 innings over nine starts, but he's trending in the right direction. Darvish's next start is projected to be at Seattle.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Hit hard early
Darvish allowed four runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five over four innings in a no-decision versus the Dodgers on Sunday.
Darvish was tagged for all four runs in the first inning, with Freddie Freeman launching a three-run shot and Andy Pages following with a solo homer. Over his eight starts this season, Darvish has allowed just six homers, all of which have been in his last five outings. He's fallen short of the five-inning mark five times so far, and his 5.97 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 34:13 K:BB through 37.2 innings offer little confidence. The 39-year-old is tentatively projected for a home rematch against the Dodgers in his next start, which may be a matchup for fantasy managers to avoid.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Sharp in victory Monday
Darvish (2-3) earned the win over San Francisco on Monday, allowing one run on four hits and no walks while striking out six batters over six innings.
Darvish kept the Giants off the scoreboard until Rafael Devers hit a solo homer off him in the sixth inning. That was the extent of the damage San Francisco managed on the night as Darvish notched his second win over his past three starts. The veteran hurler racked up 15 whiffs in the outing and picked up his second quality start of the campaign. After giving up eight runs over 3.1 innings in a disastrous outing against St. Louis on July 24, Darvish has yielded just four runs while posting an 18:2 K:BB across 17 frames over his subsequent three starts.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Struggles with control
Darvish allowed three runs on three hits and two walks while striking out five over four innings in a no-decision versus the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
It wasn't a terrible start, but Darvish wasn't dialed in. He threw just 45 of 72 pitches for strikes and also unleashed two wild pitches during this outing. Aside from his seven innings of two-hit ball versus the Mets last Wednesday, Darvish has been largely unremarkable after missing the first three months of the season due to an elbow injury. He's at a 6.51 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 23:11 K:BB through 27.2 innings across six starts. Darvish is tentatively projected for a road start in San Francisco early next week.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Earns historic victory Wednesday
Darvish (1-3) earned the win against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing two hits and no walks while striking out seven over seven scoreless innings.
Darvish was fantastic, generating 14 whiffs and needing just 76 pitches to complete seven frames. According to AJ Cassavell of MLB.com, he earned his 204th career win between Nippon Professional Baseball in Japan and MLB, breaking a tie with Hiroki Kuroda for the most all-time. While the veteran entered the game having allowed 17 earned runs over four starts this season, Wednesday's outing showed he still has something left in the tank at age 38. He'll carry a 6.46 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 18:9 K:BB across 23.2 innings into a road matchup with the Diamondbacks early next week.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Hammered for eight runs
Darvish (0-3) took the loss Thursday in St. Louis after allowing eight runs on eight hits and two walks over 3.1 innings. He struck out three.
The right-hander didn't surrender any long balls through his first three starts of the year, but St. Louis tagged him for two three-run homers during the second inning Thursday. Darvish threw 49 of 68 pitches for strikes but generated only seven whiffs and got tagged for four extra-base hits in total. The 38-year-old didn't make his season debut until July 7 due to an elbow injury, and he has a rough 9.18 ERA, 1.80 WHIP and 11:9 K:BB over 16.2 innings through his first four starts of 2025.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Completes five innings in loss
Darvish (0-2) took the loss against the Nationals on Saturday, allowing three runs on five hits and one walk with one strikeout over five innings.
Darvish rebounded from a two-run second inning and was highly efficient, needing just 69 pitches to complete five frames for the first time in three starts. The veteran hurler still appears to be searching for his command, however, as he generated only six swinging strikes and has posted a 8:7 K:BB over 13.1 innings since debuting July 7. He'll look to continue building up his workload and improving on a 6.08 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in a road matchup with the Cardinals next week.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Stretches out in second start
Darvish allowed four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out two over 4.2 innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies on Saturday.
Darvish upped his pitch count to 83 (46 strikes) in his second start after returning from an elbow injury. The results weren't any better than in his season debut, and he's still having some trouble establishing his control -- in addition to the three walks, he also had a wild pitch in this contest. Darvish has allowed six runs over 8.1 innings while adding a 7:6 K:BB. He should continue to build up his workload, and having some time off during the All-Star break will be a benefit as well. His next start will be on the road following the break, either against the Nationals or Marlins, both of whom make for favorable matchups.

Padres' Yu Darvish: Activated ahead of season debut
The Padres activated Darvish (elbow) from the 60-day injured list Monday.
Darvish is set to make his season debut Monday against the Diamondbacks following a long recovery from right elbow inflammation. The veteran righty hasn't pitched in an official game since he made a rehab start May 14, but he has been ramping up with a series of simulated games. Darvish threw 64 pitches in his last simulated game, so he will have a limited workload versus Arizona.
