Baez went 2-for-3 with two RBI in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the Astros.
Baez snapped a three-game hitless streak with his fifth multi-hit performance of the month. He's been solid overall in August, posting a .291 batting average, a home run, a stolen base and 10 RBI across 17 games. An infielder by trade, Baez has been seeing most of his time in center field recently with Matt Vierling (oblique) and Parker Meadows (quad) both on the injured list, though the former did start Wednesday's contest at shortstop before later moving to center.

Baez will get at least a partial day off his feet after starting each of the Tigers' past three games. The veteran infielder/outfielder has been swinging the bat well of late, going 9-for-23 with three doubles, two RBI and a stolen base over his past seven games. He's been playing mostly center field recently, and that job will go to Wenceel Perez on Saturday.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Heating up in August
Baez went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI in Friday's 7-0 win over the Twins.
Baez has now tallied at least one hit in nine of his first 13 games in August. The All-Star utility player had a miserable .426 OPS through 61 at-bats in July, but he's starting to heat up again so far this month. Across his last 43 at-bats, Baez is hitting .326 with five extra-base hits, eight RBI, five runs scored and one stolen base as he looks to work his way up Detroit's batting order.

Tigers' Javier Baez: Could see more time in center
Baez and Wenceel Perez are candidates to see more time in center field in the short term with Matt Vierling recently getting shut down with an oblique strain and Parker Meadows (quad) already on the injured list, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
While Meadows could be back within the next few weeks, the Tigers are worried that Vierling may miss the rest of the regular season. With both players out for the foreseeable future, Baez could see a larger role in center field. The veteran has primarily played the infield throughout his MLB career, though he's seen action in center for the first time in the majors this year, appearing in 37 games there to date. Baez's defensive versatility has been a big asset for him in 2025, and it appears he'll receive a slight bump in playing time as Detroit deals with some injuries.

Baez went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's 7-4 loss to the Angels. He also stole a base.
Baez had a third of Detroit's hits as a team, recording his first three-hit performance since June 17. He's been hot in August with a .333/.333/.583 slash line over seven games. The veteran has had a bounce-back campaign with a .727 OPS, 11 home runs and five stolen bases across 96 games. Last year, Baez posted just a .515 OPS in 80 regular-season games before eventually getting shut down due to a hip injury.

Baez did major damage late, launching a two-run homer off Zack Wheeler in the seventh inning before tacking on a two-run triple in the eighth. It was a much-needed spark from the 32-year-old, who had gone just 6-for-34 with one extra-base hit over his first 11 games out of the All-Star break. For the season, he's slashing .267/.298/.433 with 11 home runs, 45 RBI, 45 runs scored and four steals across 322 plate appearances.

Baez will get at least one day off after he experienced a flareup of the left shoulder injury he initially suffered in a June 14 game against the Reds during Sunday's 2-1 win over the Rangers. Though he's been able to get by with receiving regular treatment since sustaining the injury more than a month ago, Baez went 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts before the soreness in his shoulder proved to be too much for him to stay in Sunday's game. For his part, the three-time All-Star doesn't believe he'll require a stint on the injured list, but he'll likely need to make notable progress within the next few days to avoid being deactivated.

Baez finished 0-for-2 with two strikeouts before exiting the contest with an apparent aggravation of the shoulder he first injured while sliding into home plate in a June 14 game against the Reds.
