  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Replacing resting O'Hoppe

D'Arnaud will start at catcher and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the Cubs. With No. 1 backstop Logan O'Hoppe getting a breather for the series finale after starting at catcher Friday and Saturday, d'Arnaud will receive a turn behind the dish Sunday. Since the All-Star break, d'Arnaud is hitting a lowly .091/.216/.136 with zero home runs, zero steals, one RBI and three runs in 16 games.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Goes deep again Wednesday

D'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 11-8 victory against the Rangers. D'Arnaud's long ball was a solo shot in the fourth inning that tied the game 5-5. The veteran backstop has homered in each of his past two games, going 4-for-8 with four RBI over that stretch. While Logan O'Hoppe remains the Angels' primary catcher, he's recorded a 0:16 BB:K and .205 batting average over his past 10 games, so d'Arnaud could log a bit more playing time if the Angels opt to give O'Hoppe some time to reset. As it is, d'Arnaud has started over O'Hoppe in two of the team's past three contests.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Powers Halos to victory

D'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, two total runs and three total RBI in a 6-5 win against the Rangers on Monday. D'Arnaud gave the Angels their first lead with a two-run blast in the second inning. The Rangers retook the lead by the end of the third, but d'Arnaud came through again in the sixth, tying the score with a run-scoring double. The veteran backstop remains the clear backup to Logan O'Hoppe, and this was his first start in the team's past five games. D'Arnaud has just a .662 OPS on the season but has offered a bit of pop with five home runs over 142 plate appearances.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Goes deep Wednesday

D'Arnaud went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double and two total RBI in a 5-2 win against Boston on Wednesday. D'Arnaud tied the game with his solo shot in the fourth inning and followed with an RBI single in the fifth. The veteran backstop finished with three hits, equaling the amount he had collected over his previous 26 at-bats coming into Wednesday. D'Arnaud has worked as the backup behind Logan O'Hoppe throughout the campaign and has posted a .225/.271/.383 slash line with four homers and 12 RBI through 129 plate appearances.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Homers in Tuesday's win

D'Arnaud hit a solo home run in his lone at-bat in Tuesday's 2-1 extra-inning win over the Athletics. D'Arnaud was on the bench to begin Tuesday's contest, but he delivered the game-tying homer as a pinch hitter in the eighth inning. He's homered twice while going 6-for-12 over four games in June. The veteran catcher is up to a .234/.287/.394 slash line with three homers, seven RBI, five runs scored and six doubles over 101 plate appearances. Even with a strong run of form at the plate, it's unlikely d'Arnaud displaces Logan O'Hoppe as the Angels' starting catcher.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Smacks second homer

D'Arnaud went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Friday's 5-4 win over the Mariners. D'Arnaud's homer in the fourth inning tied the game at 4-4. The catcher isn't quite alternating starts with fellow backstop Logan O'Hoppe, but d'Arnaud has done enough with the bat lately to command more than just a backup role. He is 11-for-33 (.333) with two homers, two doubles and five RBI over his last 10 games. For the season, he has a .233/.281/.367 slash line, two homers, six RBI and four runs scored across 96 plate appearances.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Three hits in Tuesday's start

D'Arnaud went 3-for-4 in Tuesday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Red Sox. While all three knocks were singles, it was still another strong performance from d'Arnaud. The veteran catcher has seen steady work behind Logan O'Hoppe over the last few weeks and has responded by batting .310 (9-for-29) since May 18 with two doubles, a homer and three RBI.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Hits clutch homer

D'Arnaud went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI single during Sunday's 6-4 win over the Dodgers. D'Arnaud lifted a go-ahead homer in the eighth inning off Anthony Banda, helping the Halos pull off the series sweep of their Los Angeles counterparts. The performance snapped a four-game hitting drought for d'Arnaud, who went 0-for-15 with seven strikeouts during that stretch. D'Arnaud is slashing .200/.250/.317 in 64 plate appearances this season while operating as Logan O'Hoppe's backup.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Making season debut

D'Arnaud will start at catcher and bat sixth in Sunday's game against the White Sox. D'Arnaud will enter the lineup for the first time this season after Logan O'Hoppe caught the Angels' first two contests. Though he posted a respectable .738 OPS over 341 plate appearances while filling in for Sean Murphy with Atlanta in 2024, d'Arnaud will likely struggle to reach that level of playing time this season. The 25-year-old O'Hoppe is viewed as both the Angels' present and future behind the dish, so d'Arnaud may be in store for just a couple starts per week when the young backstop needs a rest.

  • Angels' Travis d'Arnaud: Gets two-year deal from Angels

The Angels signed d'Arnaud to a two-year, $12 million contract Tuesday. Atlanta declined d'Arnaud's $8 million club option for 2025 last week, but the veteran catcher quickly found a multi-year pact with a new organization. It's not an ideal landing spot for fantasy since d'Arnaud will be second on the catching depth chart behind Logan O'Hoppe, but he could still play enough to be a viable option in deeper formats. D'Arnaud, who turns 36 in February, slashed .238/.302/.436 with 15 home runs over 99 regular-season games in 2024.

  • Travis d'Arnaud: Free agent after option declined

Atlanta declined d'Arnaud's $8 million club option for 2025 on Monday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. President of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos said last month that the team planned to exercise d'Arnaud's option, but evidently feelings changed since then. The emergence of catching prospect Drake Baldwin could have played into the club's decision, as Baldwin is viewed as nearly major-league ready and could potentially be paired with Sean Murphy in 2025. D'Arnaud, who turns 36 in February, should be able to land a starting job somewhere after slashing .238/.302/.436 with 15 home runs over 99 games in 2024.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Option will be picked up

Atlanta president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos said Friday that the team plans to exercise d'Arnaud's $8 million club option for 2025, Grant McAuley of 92.9 The Game Atlanta reports. Between that and Sean Murphy's $15 million salary, Atlanta will be paying a healthy $23 million to its catching duo in 2025. D'Arnaud usurped Murphy as the club's preferred starter down the stretch this season and finished with a .238/.302/.436 batting line and 15 home runs in 2024. He and Murphy could share the catching duties pretty evenly in 2025, but the latter might also reclaim the starting job if he rebounds from a career-worst .636 OPS.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Resting Sunday

D'Arnaud is not in the starting lineup for Sunday's game against the Royals. D'Arnaud will get a breather Sunday after hitting a walk-off solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 win over Kansas City. Sean Murphy will start behind home plate and bat seventh.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Walk-off homer Saturday

D'Arnaud went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-1 win over the Royals. D'Arnaud has had few big moments in September -- he's hitting just .163 (7-for-43) with two extra-base hits this month. The walk-off blast was his 15th homer of the year, making this the fourth season in his career in which he's reached that mark. The catcher has added a .236/.301/.439 slash line with 48 RBI, 39 runs scored, 16 doubles and one stolen base over 335 plate appearances. He has been splitting time evenly behind the dish with Sean Murphy lately.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Idle Friday

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Atlanta. D'Arnaud will take a seat for a second consecutive game, giving way to Sean Murphy behind the dish. D'Arnaud hasn't had a multi-hit game since Aug. 13.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Withheld from lineup

D'Arnaud is not in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mets. D'Arnaud started the series opener Tuesday, but he'll begin Wednesday's contest on the bench. Sean Murphy will start at catcher for Atlanta and will bat eighth.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Resting Sunday

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. D'Arnaud and Sean Murphy have been alternating turns behind the plate since the former returned from the paternity list Sept. 12. After d'Arnaud started at catcher and went 0-for-5 with four strikeouts in Saturday's 6-2 win, Murphy will enter the lineup Sunday.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Giving way to Murphy on Wednesday

D'Arnaud is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Reds. D'Arnaud has alternated starts behind the plate with Sean Murphy since the former returned from the paternity list last Thursday. Murphy will get the nod Wednesday after d'Arnaud went 1-for-4 with a walk in Tuesday's 6-5 loss.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Back from paternity leave

Atlanta reinstated d'Arnaud (personal) from the paternity list Thursday. D'Arnaud will rejoin Atlanta ahead of its four-game home series against the Dodgers that begins Friday after he missed each of the team's three games earlier this week while welcoming a new addition to his family. Atlanta optioned No. 3 catcher Chadwick Tromp to Triple-A Gwinnett to clear room on the 28-man active roster for d'Arnaud.

  • Braves' Travis d'Arnaud: Placed on paternity leave

Atlanta placed d'Arnaud on the paternity list Monday. He will likely miss the next three games before rejoining the active roster for the weekend series against the Dodgers. Chadwick Tromp was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett in a corresponding move and will back up Sean Murphy at catcher for the next few days.
