Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Re-ups with Atlanta
Atlanta re-signed Carrasco to a minor-league contract Sunday.
After Atlanta designated Carrasco for assignment Thursday, the veteran right-hander elected free agency Saturday upon clearing waivers, only to re-sign with the organization a day later. Carrasco will likely slot into the rotation at Triple-A Gwinnett, but he may not be in line for another call-up to the big club before the end of the season after logging a 9.88 ERA and 2.12 WHIP in 13.2 innings over his three starts with Atlanta.

Carlos Carrasco: Reaches free agency
Carrasco elected free agency Saturday.
Atlanta designated Carrasco for assignment Thursday, and after clearing waivers, the 38-year-old chose to hit the open market rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett. After being acquired from the Yankees on July 28, Carrasco made three starts for Atlanta and posted a 9.88 ERA and 9:7 K:BB across 13.2 innings before losing his spot in the rotation and the 40-man roster.

Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Shelled by former club
Carrasco allowed six runs on six hits and three walks while striking out two batters over two innings in a no-decision against the Mets on Wednesday.
Facing the team he pitched for from 2021 to 2023, Carrasco was unable to reach the third frame. The Mets got to him for three runs in each of the first two innings, with the biggest blow being a Juan Soto two-run homer. Carrasco needed 67 pitches -- only 36 of which were strikes -- to retire six batters, and he gave up four extra-base hits. After notching a quality start against the Reds in his Atlanta debut July 31, the veteran righty has surrendered 12 runs over 7.2 innings in his subsequent two outings. His season ERA now stands at 7.09 across 45.2 frames between Atlanta and the Yankees, and it's fair to wonder how much the 38-year-old has left in the tank.

Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Booted from 40-man roster
Atlanta designated Carrasco for assignment Thursday.
Atlanta appears set to proceed with Hurston Waldrep and Erick Fedde as its back-end rotation options after DFA'ing Carrasco, who allowed 15 earned runs on 22 hits and seven walks over 13.2 innings across his three starts with the club upon being acquired from the Yankees on July 28. Once he clears waivers, the 38-year-old right-hander could elect free agency in pursuit of an opportunity elsewhere, but it's possible that his time as a big-league pitcher may be over.

Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Struggles in no-decision
Carrasco didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Marlins, allowing six earned runs on nine hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.
Carrasco was tagged for five runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run homer from Graham Pauley, and never fully settled in. The veteran right-hander has been subpar since joining Atlanta, giving up nine earned runs on 16 hits over 11.2 innings through two starts. Carrasco's margin for error remains thin as he tries to solidify a spot in Atlanta's rotation after a string of injuries.

Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Drawing another start
Carrasco is slated to start Thursday's game against the Marlins at Truist Park.
Carrasco will be awarded a second start for Atlanta after he came over in a trade with the Yankees and impressed in his team debut last Thursday. He took a no-decision in Atlanta's 12-11 win over the Reds that day, covering six innings and allowing three earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out five. With the Atlanta rotation having been thinned by injuries in recent weeks and with Chris Sale (ribcage) not on track to return for a couple more weeks, Carrasco should get the opportunity to make additional starts for the club beyond Thursday.

Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Quality start in Atlanta debut
Carrasco didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Reds, allowing three runs on seven hits and two walks over six innings. He struck out five.
Carrasco got off to a shaky start, allowing three runs in his first three innings, though he'd ultimately settle in and blank Cincinnati over his final three frames to log his first quality start of the season. Carrasco was traded to Atlanta after struggling to a 5.91 ERA and 1.53 WHIP across 32 innings with the Yankees. The veteran right-hander figures to get a long look in the rotation as Atlanta currently has five starters on the 60-day IL. Carrasco currently lines up for a home matchup with the Brewers in his next outing.

Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Called up, will start Thursday
Atlanta selected Carrasco's contract and will have him start Thursday against the Reds in Cincinnati.
Acquired from the Yankees earlier this week, Carrasco didn't end up reporting to Triple-A Gwinnett and will end up slotting into the opening in the Atlanta rotation that was created when Grant Holmes (elbow) landed on the injured list Sunday. Over eight appearances (six starts) in the big leagues with New York earlier this season, Carrasco posted a 5.91 ERA and 1.53 WHIP over 32 innings, but the veteran right-hander had been pitching effectively lately at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Over his five outings this month, Carrasco submitted a 2.23 ERA and 0.93 WHIP while issuing just three walks over 32.1 innings.

Braves' Carlos Carrasco: Traded to Atlanta
Atlanta acquired Carrasco from the Yankees on Monday in exchange for cash considerations, Jack Curry of YES Network reports.
Atlanta desperately needs rotation arms as it deals with myriad injuries to starting pitchers, and the club has now acquired Erick Fedde and Carrasco within the last two days to bolster depth. Fedde will join Atlanta's rotation and start Tuesday in Kansas City, and there's a good chance Carrasco will do the same, perhaps as soon as Thursday in Cincinnati. Carrasco -- who would need to be added to the 40-man roster -- has pitched well lately at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, collecting a 2.23 ERA and 21:3 K:BB over 32.1 frames covering his last five starts.

Yankees' Carlos Carrasco: Staying in organization at Triple-A
The Yankees outrighted Carrasco to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday.
Carrasco could have elected free agency and tested his options on the open market after the Yankees recently pushed him off their 40-man roster for the second time this season, but he'll instead stick around in the organization as starting depth at the Triple-A level. The 38-year-old righty could get another look with the Yankees at some point later in the summer if injuries hit the rotation, but he shouldn't attract much interest in fantasy circles after delivering a 5.91 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 25:10 K:BB in 32 innings between his prior two stints with the big club.

Yankees' Carlos Carrasco: Dropped from 40-man roster
The Yankees designated Carrasco for assignment Tuesday.
Carrasco did not make an appearance during his most recent stint with the Yankees. He will likely clear waivers again and be outrighted, at which point he would decide whether to remain in the organization or become a free agent.

Yankees' Carlos Carrasco: Headed to waivers
The Yankees will place Carrasco on outright waivers prior to Tuesday's game against the Guardians, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports.
Carrasco was added to the big-league roster Sunday as bullpen protection but did not make an appearance. He accepted an outright assignment by the Yankees in May and could do so again.

Yankees' Carlos Carrasco: Rejoins big club
The Yankees selected Carrasco's contract from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Sunday.
Saturday's starter Will Warren lasted just 1.1 frames in a blowout loss to the Dodgers on Saturday, so Carrasco will join the Yankees as a potential long-relief option for Sunday's series finale. The 38-year-old made eight appearances (six starts) for New York before being DFA'd in early May and had a 5.91 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 25:20 K:BB across 32 innings.

Yankees' Carlos Carrasco: Outrighted to SWB
Carrasco cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
Carrasco was designated for assignment Tuesday after turning in a 5.91 ERA and 1.53 WHIP in 32 innings across eight appearances with the Yankees. Rather than opting for free agency, the 38-year-old righty will remain in the organization and serve as rotation depth for the RailRiders. However, his 6.14 ERA in the majors since 2023 gives him little hope of contributing for the big club later in the year.
