Carlos Gomez: Plans to retire
Gomez intends to announce retirement at the end of the Dominican League season, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.
Gomez played for six major-league teams during his time in the big leagues, though he intends to retire as a Brewer, per Nightengale. The 34-year-old will end his career with a .252 batting average along with 145 home runs, 546 RBI and 268 stolen bases over 1,461 games.

Gomez cleared waivers Wednesday and elected to become a free agent.
Gomez was designated for assignment by the Mets on Sunday and will become a free agent rather than heading to Triple-A. The 33-year-old slashed .198/.278/.337 in 34 games during the stint in New York.

Mets' Carlos Gomez: Removed from 40-man roster
Gomez was designated for assignment by the Mets on Sunday.
Gomez reverted to a bench role over the past week with his last start coming June 23. The 33-year-old finished June with a .170/.231/.209 slash line in 19 games and saw his workload dissipate with Michael Conforto taking over the everyday role in center field. Noah Syndergaard (hamstring) was activated off the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.
