ESPN's Adam Rubin is reporting Mets reliever Justin Hampson has been designated for assignment, and Kirk Nieuwenhuis won't be going on the DL with a hand injury, sustained Tuesday during batting practice.
Earlier Wednesday morning, Jordany Valdespin's bag was spotted in the Mets clubhouse, after he was recalled from Triple-A Buffalo, and it was expected Nieuwenhuis would hit the disabled list. It turns out Valdespin takes Hampson's spot on the roster, and the Mets will carry six relievers until the All-Star break.
