Phillies starting pitcher Jonathan Pettibone (5-4) turned in a decent outing but was hit with the loss in his first start back from the All-Star break Tuesday against the Cardinals. The right-hander permitted three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four over five innings pitched in a 4-1 defeat.
Pettibone has allowed three earned runs in three of his last five starts. He is scheduled to make his next start Sunday at Detroit. He is 2-3 with a 5.48 ERA in eight starts away from home this season.
