Miller is expected to provide even more leadership this year as captain of the Rangers, Colin Stephenson of Newsday reports.

James Hagens C | BOS
Bruins' James Hagens: Draws praise following rookie camp
Head coach Marco Sturm said Wednesday that Hagens seized an opportunity to shine during rookie camp, Joe Haggerty of Boston Sports Journal reports.
Sturm said Hagens' participation in rookie camp gave the young forward a head start going into training camp. The 19-year-old Hagens worked hard to prepare for the likelihood of playing regularly in the NHL in 2026-27. Hagens made a pair of regular-season appearances with Boston last year, recording an assist, two PIM and a hit while averaging 14:33 of ice time per game. He spent most of 2025-26 at Boston College, where he recorded 23 goals, 24 assists and 24 PIM across 34 outings.

Pavel Zacha C | BOS
Bruins' Pavel Zacha: Remains in talks with Boston about future
General manager Don Sweeney said Wednesday that the team remains in communication with Zacha's representation regarding his future, Joe Haggerty of Boston Sports Journal reports.
Zacha, a potential unrestricted free agent next summer, has been speculated as a trade candidate. However, Sweeney spoke about the 29-year-old forward's importance to the club and indicated that the Bruins are interested in a contract extension. Zacha has made at least 78 regular-season appearances in each of his four years with the Bruins, most recently recording 30 goals, 35 assists, 64 hits, 28 PIM and 26 blocked shots across 78 regular-season appearances in 2025-26.

Cooley was limited to a career-low 54 regular-season appearances last year, and he recorded 24 goals, 19 assists, 54 hits, 28 PIM and 27 blocked shots while averaging 17:20 of ice time. He said during his press availability Wednesday that one of his main goals for the 2026-27 season is to stay healthy and play in all 84 regular-season games, and he seems encouraged by the work he put in over the summer.

Mattias Janmark C | EDM
Oilers' Mattias Janmark: Won't appear in preseason games
Janmark (undisclosed) will skate during training camp but won't appear in preseason games, per Jason Gregor of Sports 1440 Edmonton on Wednesday.
The Oilers indicated in late August that Janmark wouldn't participate in training camp while recovering from surgery that he underwent last March. While it's encouraging that he'll do some on-ice activity during camp, his absence from preseason action suggests that he could also be sidelined for at least some regular-season games.

Filip Chytil C | VAN
Canucks' Filip Chytil: Role to be determined during camp
Head coach Manny Malhotra didn't indicate Wednesday whether he'll use Chytil as a center or a winger during the 2026-27 campaign, Jeff Paterson of CanucksArmy.com reports.
Malhotra praised Chytil's combination of size and speed. The 27-year-old Chytil's role for the upcoming season will be determined during training camp and preseason action. He missed significant time during the 2025-26 campaign due to upper-body and facial injuries while recording three goals, six PIM, four hits and four blocked shots across 12 regular-season appearances.

Matt Rempe C | NYR
Rangers' Matt Rempe: Healthy for start of camp
General manager Chris Drury said Wednesday that Rempe (thumb) is healthy for the start of training camp, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reports.
Rempe missed the final month and a half of the 2025-26 campaign due to a thumb injury. However, he had clear medical results after reporting for training camp. Across 26 regular-season appearances last year, he recorded a goal, 86 hits, 11 PIM and six blocked shots while averaging 8:36 of ice time per game.
-
Aleksander Barkov C | FLA
Panthers' Aleksander Barkov: Good to go
Barkov (knee) is available for the start of training camp, per David Dwork of The Hockey News on Wednesday.
Barkov didn't play at all during the 2025-26 campaign due to the injury, but he did log three goals and 11 points in 10 outings for Team Finland during the 2026 IIHF World Championship. Even without focusing on the lost season, Barkov has a lengthy injury history. The 31-year-old hasn't reached the 75-game mark in a regular season since 2018-19. However, Barkov is capable of producing a little over a point per game when healthy.
-
Tij Iginla C | UTA
Mammoth's Tij Iginla: Ready for training camp
Iginla (undisclosed) is expected to be fine for training camp, Cole Bagley of KSL Sports reports Wednesday.
Iginla didn't participate in rookie camp games because of the injury, but the Mammoth are fully healthy going into their full training camp. The 20-year-old had 41 goals and 90 points in 48 regular-season appearances with WHL Kelowna in 2025-26. He should get into some preseason action, but Iginla is far from a sure thing to make Utah's 2026-27 roster.

Barrett Hayton C | UTA
Mammoth's Barrett Hayton: Set for upcoming season
Hayton (upper body) is healthy ahead of the start of training camp, Cole Bagley of KSL Sports reports Wednesday.
Hayton was hampered by injuries last year, logging just 67 regular-season games and missing the bulk of the postseason. In those outings, the 26-year-old center notched 10 goals and 15 helpers, including six power-play points. With a full 84-game season, Hayton should be capable of challenging for both the 20-goal and 50-point thresholds.
