Pietila was reassigned to AHL Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday.
Pietila was called up by the Penguins on Thursday, but he didn't make his NHL debut during his stint with Pittsburgh. The 22-year-old has recorded two assists and 11 PIM across his first five regular-season appearances in the AHL this year.
