  • Jordan Mason RB | MIN

49ers' Jordan Mason: Limited to special teams

Mason did not see the field on offense Monday, finishing with 12 snaps on special teams in a 33-19 loss to Baltimore.

The 49ers were playing catch-up for most of this one-sided affair, which resulted in star tailback Christian McCaffrey playing 100 percent of the offensive snaps. This left Mason -- who has been operating as the No. 2 back with Elijah Mitchell (knee) sidelined -- with zero touches after averaging 3.7 carries and 16.7 rushing yards over San Francisco's last three games. Assuming the NFC's top seed does not get blown out by the 4-11 Commanders on Sunday, Mason should resume his role on offense spelling CMC with a handful of touches on New Year's Eve.

  • Commanders' Chris Rodriguez: Dealing with ankle injury

Rodriguez suffered an ankle injury in Sunday's win over the Jets, Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post reports.

Rodriguez was spotted in a walking boot after the win, but the exact nature of his injury remains unclear. Jhabvala reports that Rodriguez "rolled his ankle" against New York. Given all of the injuries in its backfield, Washington signed Jaret Patterson to the practice squad Tuesday.

  • Nick Bawden RB | HOU

Nick Bawden: Back to Jets' practice squad

Bawden reverted to New York's practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Bawden was elevated from the practice squad for Sunday's 30-28 win over the Commanders, but he remained inactive for the contest. In all 14 of the Jets' prior games, Bawden had suited up, compiling 17 yards from scrimmage on four touches and playing 266 special-teams snaps.

  • Boston Scott RB | PIT

Eagles' Boston Scott: No magic against Giants

Scott rushed once for three yards and lost a fumble in Monday's victory over the Giants.

Scott had developed a reputation as a Giant-killer, scoring in each of his previous eight matchups against the division rival. He's reached the end zone 10 times against the Giants and just seven times against the rest of the league combined across his six NFL seasons. His luck ran out Monday, however, as he played a total of just two offensive snaps. He was also the victim of some misfortune on a kickoff return, when teammate Olamide Zaccheaus ran directly into him, forcing a fumble.

  • Eagles' Kenneth Gainwell: Season-high 79 yards from scrimmage

Gainwell rushed six times for 41 yards and caught three passes for 38 yards in Monday's win over the Giants.

Gainwell's 79 total yards from scrimmage represented his highest total of the season, though he played less than 40 percent of the Eagles' offensive snaps for the first time since Week 12. He remains clearly behind D'Andre Swift on the depth chart, as Swift received 20 touches in the victory.

  • Malik Davis RB | DAL

Malik Davis: Reverts back to practice squad

Davis reverted to the Cowboys' practice squad Monday, per the NFL's transaction log.

Davis played 16 snaps on special teams but didn't record any stats during Sunday's 22-20 loss to the Dolphins. The veteran running back has appeared in three games for Dallas this season, but he hasn't yet handled an offensive snap.

  • Browns' Pierre Strong: Most carries since Week 8

Strong had five carries for 22 yards, did not catch his lone target and returned one kickoff for 36 yards in Sunday's 36-22 win over Houston in Week 16.

Strong's opening kickoff return gave the offense good field position, which set up a 53-yard connection from quarterback Joe Flacco to wideout Amari Cooper. Three plays later, the Browns had a 7-0 lead just 1:42 into the game. That sequence set the tone of the day. On offense, Strong's five totes were his most since Week 8 when Jerome Ford was dealing with an ankle injury. The Browns return to action quickly, Thursday night at home against the Jets, which could lead to a bigger role for Strong as Kareem Hunt is working through a groin injury.

  • Dameon Pierce RB | PHI

Texans' Dameon Pierce: Scores on special teams

Pierce returned five kickoffs for 174 yards, including a 98-yard touchdown, in Sunday's 36-22 loss to the Browns in Week 16. He added three carries for six yards and caught one of two targets for 10 yards.

Pierce provided an early lift by taking a kickoff to the house after Cleveland had jumped out to a 14-0 lead, but Houston's offense was unable to take advantage of the momentum swing. He had just 15 snaps on offense, continuing a downward trend after getting just four in Week 15. Since returning from an ankle injury five weeks ago, Pierce has a combined 85 yards on offense and slipped behind Devin Singletary on the depth chart. While the ankle could have played a role in his diminished production, Sunday's TD return is a strong sign it's no longer a factor, if it ever was -- he hadn't been doing much as the team's lead back prior to the injury.

  • Chase Edmonds RB | WAS

Buccaneers' Chase Edmonds: Season-high carry total in win

Edmonds rushed 10 times for 25 yards in the Buccaneers' 30-12 win over the Jaguars on Sunday.

The sixth-year veteran's usage shot back up Sunday after he'd followed a 10-touch tally Week 14 with just three carries against the Packers in Week 15. Edmonds' carry total Sunday was a season high and qualified as his most usage on the ground since Week 1 of last season in his Dolphins debut. The encouraging increase in involvement does come with a caveat, however, as it appeared to be largely the byproduct of an extremely positive second-half game script for the Buccaneers' running game.

  • Trey Sermon RB | PIT

Colts' Trey Sermon: Just two carries in loss

Sermon had two carries for three yards in Sunday's 29-10 loss to Atlanta.

Both Goodson and Trey Sermon played 14 snaps on offense in reserve roles behind Jonathan Taylor (thumb), who made his return from a three-game absence while Zack Moss (forearm) sat out Sunday. Goodson, who had one carry and two receptions, drew more opportunities than Sermon, but both were used sparingly with Taylor available again. Sermon looks to be the top runner behind Taylor while Goodson profiles as superior pass-catching options, but both could see their roles on offense disappear entirely if Moss is able to play Week 17 against the Raiders.
