Colts' Anthony Richardson: Cleared for voluntary workouts
Anthony Richardson (eye) has been cleared to fully participate in practice at voluntary workouts this week, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan reports.Richardson initially opted against reporting for the start of the team's voluntary offseason workout program after he requested a trade back in February but has since had a change of heart, as he reported to the team earlier this week. Coming off a fractured orbital that ended his 2025 season last October, Richardson is back to 100 percent health. There's still a decent chance he's not part of the Indianapolis Colts' roster later this summer after Indy declined the quarterback's 2027 option. Richardson is competing with Riley Leonard for the QB2 gig behind Daniel Jones and figures to draw interest as a one-time first-round pick with theoretical upside when healthy.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Present at Monday's voluntary OTAs
Anthony Richardson (eye) reported for voluntary offseason workouts Monday, Stephen Holder of ESPN reports.Richardson requested a trade from the Indianapolis Colts in February and didn't attend workouts over the previous two weeks, but he has seemingly decided that staying home will do him no good for the time being and will join his teammates in practice. It remains to be seen if Richardson is able to participate without limitations after finishing the previous campaign on IR due to an eye injury. If Richardson and the Colts manage to mend fences, he has a chance of being the team's Week 1 starter, as Daniel Jones is recovering from a Dec. 7 Achilles tear, while the other QBs on the roster are Richardson, 2025 sixth-round pick Riley Leonard and Seth Henigan.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Doesn't receive fifth-year option
The Indianapolis Colts didn't exercise the fifth-year option on Anthony Richardson's (eye) rookie contract, Kevin Bowen of 107.5 The Fan Indianapolis reports.A first-round pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, fourth overall, Richardson has dealt with injuries and inconsistency during his three-year career, and after losing out in the QB competition with Daniel Jones (Achilles) last August, the former eventually suffered an orbital fracture in pregame warmups ahead of Week 6 action and missed the rest of the 2025 campaign. Richardson then put in a trade request with Indianapolis in February and is skipping the early portion of the offseason program. Considering where he stands with the organization, it's no surprise the Colts opted not to commit roughly $22.5 million in Richardson for the 2027 season. Whether or not he ends up elsewhere in the coming weeks or months remains to be seen, but as GM Chris Ballard told Stephen Holder of ESPN.com at the annual league meeting in late March, a scenario "definitely" exists for Richardson to stay with the only pro team he's ever known.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Skipping voluntary workouts
Anthony Richardson (eye) is not participating in the start of the Indianapolis Colts' voluntary offseason workout program Monday, Stephen Holder of ESPN.com reports.Richardson and cornerback Kenny Moore both submitted trade requests earlier this offseason and now are sitting out voluntary workouts. On Richardson's part, however, it's worth noting that GM Chris Ballard said at the annual league meeting in late March that a scenario in which the 2023 first-round pick remains in Indianapolis "definitely" exists, per Stephen Holder of ESPN.com. With the Colts having locked in Daniel Jones (Achilles) as their starter via a two-year extension, a mutual parting of ways with Richardson seems to make the most sense for both sides, but that depends on a trade partner materializing. Ballard said Monday that Richardson still is recovering from his eye injury, but "he's cleared for activity and doing everything," James Boyd of The Athletic reports.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Could still stick with Colts
Indianapolis GM Chris Ballard said Monday at the NFL owners' meeting that "[t]here's definitely a scenario" in which Anthony Richardson (eye) remains with the Indianapolis Colts in 2026, Stephen Holder of ESPN reports.Richardson requested and received permission to seek a trade in late February, and Indianapolis has since re-signed Daniel Jones (Achilles) to a two-year extension that solidifies him as the team's starter. Meanwhile, 2025 sixth-round pick Riley Leonard looked capable of locking down the No. 2 job during the lone start of his rookie campaign, leaving Richardson's status unclear. Ballard also said he remains open to adding another QB due to Jones' uncertainty for Week 1, which could indicate that the team is still looking to move on from Richardson. Richardson ended last season on IR after fracturing the orbital bone of his right eye in October.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Puts in trade request
Anthony Richardson (eye) has requested and received permission from the Indianapolis Colts to seek a trade, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.Richardson, the fourth overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft, has played a total of just 17 games across his tenure with Indianapolis, with injuries playing a significant role in the extent of his missed time. Last summer, the 2023 first-round pick lost his starting job to quarterback Daniel Jones (Achilles), who suffered a season-ending injury midway through the 2025 campaign and was then replaced under center by free agent veteran Philip Rivers. Richardson meanwhile, was placed on injured reserve in October due to a fractured orbital bone of his right eye, but he made enough progress late in the season for the Colts to open his 21-day practice window. Though Richardson ultimately wasn't activated from IR, Boyd relays that the quarterback has regained full vision in the affected eye. Richardson has one year remaining on his rookie deal, and at this stage, his best-case scenario may be getting a fresh start elsewhere with a team that will give him the opportunity to compete for a starting gig in 2026.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Will not be activated from IR
Anthony Richardson (eye) will not be activated from injured reserve this week and is out for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Texans.Richardson is still having vision impairments after suffering a fractured orbital bone Oct. 12. He had his 21-day practice window opened Dec. 18 but has only been a limited participant in practice the past couple weeks. After making 11 starts in 2024, Richardson lost his starting job to Daniel Jones over the summer, and the Indianapolis Colts then turned to 44-year-old Philip Rivers in Week 15 in an attempt to save the season. Richardson made just two appearances in 2025, completing one of two passes for nine yards. He "rushed" four times for negative-one yard via kneel-downs. Richardson's future in Indianapolis will be a discussion point this upcoming offseason.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Not expected back for finale
The Indianapolis Colts aren't expected to activate Anthony Richardson (eye) from injured reserve ahead of Sunday's season finale versus the Texans, Stephen Holder and Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com report.Richardson was cleared to resume practicing Dec. 18, but he has yet to regain full vision in his right eye after fracturing an orbital bone Oct. 12. The third-year quarterback should continue to practice in limited fashion, but the Colts plan to have Riley Leonard make his first NFL start in Week 18, while Philip Rivers will serve as the No. 2 signal-caller. Richardson will close the season having made just two brief appearances at the tail end of blowout wins in Weeks 3 and 5, and Indianapolis will most likely decline the pricey fifth-year option on his rookie contract this offseason. The 23-year-old could still be a candidate to open 2026 as the team's starter with Daniel Jones (Achilles) headed for free agency and at risk of missing time to begin the campaign even if Indianapolis re-signs him.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Not coming off IR this week
Coach Shane Steichen noted Wednesday that Anthony Richardson (orbital) won't be activated from IR ahead of Sunday's game against the Jaguars, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.Steichen previously confirmed that Philip Rivers will draw the start at QB for the 8-7 Indianapolis Colts on Sunday. With Richardson not slated to come off IR in advance of Week 17 action, Riley Leonard will continue to back up Rivers this weekend.

Colts' Anthony Richardson: Not in mix to start Week 17
Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen suggested Tuesday that Anthony Richardson (orbital) is unlikely to be activated from injured reserve this week while Riley Leonard continues to back up Philip Rivers, who will make a third straight start at quarterback Sunday against the Jaguars, James Boyd of The Athletic reports.Richardson made enough progress in his recovery from the fractured orbital bone he suffered in his right eye during an Oct. 12 pregame for the Colts to clear him to practice last week, but the third-year signal-caller didn't advance beyond limited participation. As Boyd notes, Richardson hasn't regained full vision in the eye despite returning to practice, so until that happens, the Colts will likely be reluctant to activate him. Pending the results of Saturday's Chargers-Texans game as well as Sunday's action, the Colts could be eliminated from playoff contention heading into Week 18, in which case Steichen could be motivated to go in a different direction at quarterback. Leonard would still appear to be more likely than Richardson to draw a start in the regular-season finale at Houston.
