Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Strong fantasy night in loss

Jayden Daniels completed 29 of 40 passes for 300 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions while adding four rushes for 10 yards in the Washington Commanders' 23-17 loss to the 49ers on Monday night.Daniels' final numbers won't displease fantasy managers by any stretch, but the athletic signal-caller didn't really get the Commanders' offense going until the second half. Daniels put the Commanders' first touchdown of the night on board in the waning seconds of the third quarter when he connected with Stefon Diggs from one yard out, and he followed it up with a 10-play, 90-yard march early in the fourth quarter that he capped off with a nine-yard touchdown toss to Rachaad White. However, Daniels and the Commanders came up empty on a subsequent 13-play drive that ended on downs, and the 2024 first-round pick then took a sack on the game's final play after triggering a 10-second runoff with an intentional grounding penalty on the prior snap. Despite the disappointing outcome, Daniels has been solid in his first two games back from an elbow injury, and he'll next face off with the Eagles at home on Sunday night, Nov. 1, following a Week 7 bye.

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Two rushing TDs in return

Jayden Daniels (elbow) completed 17 of 25 passes for 199 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions while rushing nine times for 103 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 27-27 tie against the Giants. He also threw a successful two-point conversion.Daniels wasn't afraid to run in his return from a two-game absence due to a dislocated left elbow. He scored second-half rushing touchdowns of 38 and 26 yards, the latter of which Daniels followed up with a two-point conversion to Terry McLaurin to give the Washington Commanders a 14-point lead with 11:05 left in the fourth quarter. The Giants proceeded to erase that deficit and force OT, where Daniels drove the Commanders down to the Giants' 24-yard line with 55 seconds remaining, but Washington remarkably failed to get a game-winning field-goal attempt off, as the Commanders ran the clock down and then failed to stop the clock when Daniels went down inbounds on their final offensive play. The bizarre ending overshadows what was otherwise an encouraging performance from Daniels, who made it through the game without any physical setbacks and is set to start in Week 6 against the 49ers.

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Will start Sunday

Head coach Dan Quinn confirmed Friday that Jayden Daniels (elbow) will start Sunday's game against the Giants.Daniels was injured just before halftime in Week 2 against the Cowboys and will return following a two-game absence. With Marcus Mariota dealing with a sprained MCL, Daniels' return comes at the right time for the Washington Commanders. His insertion back under center will boost the entire offense, though Terry McLaurin (hamstring) is questionable and Stefon Diggs (hamstring) has been ruled out, downgrading Daniels' supporting cast in a big way.

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: No limitations expected in return

Offensive coordinator David Blough said Thursday that Jayden Daniels (left elbow) is "full go" for Sunday's game against the Giants and won't have any limitations, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.Daniels returned to practice Wednesday and participated without limitations after missing the previous two games due to a dislocated left elbow. According to Blough, the Washington Commanders plan to have the entire playbook available for their mobile quarterback. If Daniels were to sustain any setbacks in his return, undrafted rookie Athan Kaliakmanis would likely be thrust back into action, as Marcus Mariota (knee) isn't expected to be available after spraining his knee in Washington's Week 4 loss to the Colts.

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Logs full practice Wednesday

Jayden Daniels (left elbow) practiced fully Wednesday. After Daniels missed the last two contests due to a dislocated left elbow, coach Dan Quinn said Monday that the Washington Commanders expected the quarterback to be full this week and start Sunday versus the Giants. Daniels' activity level to begin Week 5 prep thus isn't a surprise, and he thus will slot back in as the No. 1 for a QB room that lost his backup Marcus Mariota to a right MCL sprain this past Sunday against the Colts in London. Washington's skill-position group is particularly banged-up at the moment, though, as WRs Terry McLaurin (hamstring) and Stefon Diggs (hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday, while all of RBs Jacory Croskey-Merritt (groin) and Rachaad White (shoulder) and TEs Chig Okonkwo (hamstring) and Ben Sinnott (ribs) were limited.

    Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Practicing Wednesday

Jayden Daniels (elbow) was spotted throwing during the open portion of Wednesday's practice, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.Daniels has missed the last two games due to a dislocated left elbow, but head coach Dan Quinn told Zach Selby of the Washington Commanders' official site on Monday that the quarterback likely will be a full participant this week with the intent to start Sunday against the Giants. Wednesday's practice report ultimately will reveal Daniels' activity level to begin Week 5 prep.

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Return to action imminent?

Coach Dan Quinn said Monday that the Washington Commanders are aiming for Jayden Daniels (left elbow) to have a full practice week and then start Sunday's game against the Giants, Zach Selby of the Commanders' official site reports. The timing of Daniels' likely return to action is fortuitous for Washington after fill-in QB Marcus Mariota was knocked out of Sunday's defeat to the Colts in London and eventually diagnosed with an MCL sprain in his right knee, per Ben Standig of The Team 980 Washington D.C. Daniels has missed the last games after dislocating his left elbow for the second time in as many seasons back in Week 2. Wednesday's injury report will reveal if Daniels indeed is kicking off Week 5 prep with a full practice.

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Aiming to return for Week 5

Jayden Daniels (elbow) will be a full participant in practice for Week 5 prep with the aim to play against the Giants on Sunday, Oct. 11, Tashan Reed of The Washington Post reports.Daniels has missed the Washington Commanders' last two games, including Sunday's 30-13 loss to the Colts in London, due to a dislocated left elbow that he sustained against the Cowboys in Week 2. It appears the third-year quarterback is trending toward playing in Week 5, and there is an added push to get Daniels back under center after Marcus Mariota aggravated a right knee injury during Sunday's game, resulting in rookie seventh-rounder Athan Kaliakmanis being inserted into the game.

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Ruled out for Week 4

Jayden Daniels (elbow), per head coach Dan Quinn, was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Colts in London, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports.Daniels was able to practice on a limited basis this week -- "a huge step," Quinn said also via Jhabvala -- but the Washington Commanders will sideline him for a second straight contest and give Marcus Mariota another start. It's unclear exactly how close Daniels is to returning to the field, but the door is seemingly open for him to get back out there in Week 5 against the Giants.

Commanders' Jayden Daniels: Limited again Thursday

Jayden Daniels (elbow) remained limited at practice Thursday, John Keim of ESPN.com reports.Daniels has been limited both Wednesday and Thursday as the Washington Commanders prepare to face the Colts in London on Sunday. The 2024 second overall pick said he believes he will be able to play through the injury to his non-throwing elbow while wearing a brace, though surgery could be an option after the season. Marcus Mariota, who led the Commanders to a Week 3 upset win over the Seahawks in Daniels' absence, remains in the mix to start against the Colts as well.
