New England signed Montgomery to its active roster Saturday, Mike Reiss of ESPN.com reports.
The veteran running back was waived and added to the Patriots' practice squad this offseason before signing to the team's active roster. Montgomery will join Rhamondre Stevenson and Ezekiel Elliott in New England's backfield ahead of the coming season.
