Shipley (neck) was placed on injured reserve Friday, Carmen Vitali of the Buccaneers' official site reports.

Shipley is facing a career-threatening injury. Coach Bruce Arians acknowledged as much and mentioned in his comments to the media that Shipley would transition to become a coach on his staff. Shipley has yet to formally retire, though it sounds as if his days on the field are over.
