Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Effective in return to rotation

Nathan Eovaldi took a no-decision Saturday against the Twins, striking out three while allowing one run on four hits and two walks in 4.1 innings.Eovaldi made his first start since returning from the injured list in mid-September, ending the season on a positive note. The veteran right-hander has one more year left on his deal with the Texas Rangers, and he figures to rejoin the rotation in 2027 following a disappointing campaign. After recording a career-best 1.73 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 2025, Eovaldi worked to a 4.20 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 144:35 K:BB over 145.2 innings in 2026.

    Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Starting Saturday

Nathan Eovaldi will start Saturday's game against the Twins.Eovaldi will be making his first start since Aug. 7 during the Texas Rangers' penultimate regular-season game as they continue to compete for a division title. The 36-year-old has made four appearances as a reliever since returning from an elbow injury Sept. 12, during which he's coughed up five earned runs in 8.2 innings while striking out four batters and walking one. He never threw more than 46 pitches in any of those outings, so although he'll be capable of handling multiple innings Saturday, he may struggle to pitch deep enough into the game to record a win.

Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Blows lead, takes loss Tuesday

Nathan Eovaldi (11-10) took the loss and was charged with his first blown save after allowing three runs on three hits and a walk over one inning in Tuesday's 6-3 loss to the Mets. He did not record a strikeout.Eovaldi entered to begin the sixth with Texas protecting a 3-2 lead but couldn't hold the advantage. Brett Baty doubled and Marcus Semien reached before Francisco Alvarez delivered a two-run double to put New York ahead 4-3. Luis Torrens followed with a sacrifice fly that brought Alvarez home and completed the three-run inning. Eovaldi needed 29 pitches to record three outs, and this rough appearance increased his ERA to 4.27. This was Eovaldi's first time allowing more than one earned run since the end of July, and he will continue to pitch in relief down the stretch.

Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Earns win in relief

Nathan Eovaldi improved to 11-9 on the season after allowing one hit and no walks while striking out one batter over four scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Wednesday's 7-3 win over the Red Sox.Eovaldi made his second relief appearance since coming off the injured list last weekend and shut down the Red Sox. He was needed for length as starter MacKenzie Gore battled muscle spasms in his shoulder and was limited to four innings. After tossing 46 pitches Wednesday, Eovaldi could be built up enough to make an abbreviated start or bulk-relief appearance at some point during the final week of the regular season. The Texas Rangers could have some openings in the rotation, as Gore and Cal Quantrill (back) are battling injuries, while Cody Bradford has gone 0-5 with a 4.72 ERA in his seven starts since returning from the 60-day IL in early August.

Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Back from IL

The Texas Rangers reinstated Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) from the injured list Saturday.Right elbow inflammation sent Eovaldi to the injured list Aug. 10, and after spending about a month recovering, he's been cleared to return to the Rangers' pitching staff as a reliever. The 36-year-old righty may eventually build up his workload enough to handle multiple innings out of the 'pen, but he likely won't be tapped for high-leverage work after posting a 4.21 ERA and 1.21 WHIP prior to getting injured. Adam Macko was sent down to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Prepping for relief role, at least initially

Texas Rangers manager Skip Schumaker said Sunday that Nathan Eovaldi could pitch in a multiple-inning relief role once he returns from the 15-day injured list before "hopefully" building up enough length to make spot starts if necessary or if time permits, Shawn McFarland of The Dallas Morning News reports. "It's just really challenging to think we're getting six innings out of him [immediately when he returns]," Schumaker said of Eovaldi.Eovaldi has been on the shelf since Aug. 7 because of right elbow inflammation but has demonstrated signs of progress over the past week. He threw approximately 40 pitches in the bullpen over two sets Saturday and is poised to take another step forward early this week, when he throws off a mound against live hitters. If all goes well during the live session, Eovaldi could then come back from the IL and slot into the bullpen, though it's possible the Rangers send him out on a brief rehab assignment beforehand. Regardless, Eovaldi looks like he'll need some time to get fully stretched back out, and though the veteran right-hander could prove to be a useful piece for the Rangers out of the bullpen, that sort of role won't lend itself to much fantasy value while Jacob Latz is secure as the team's closer.

Rangers' Nathan Eovaldi: Throws bullpen Thursday

Nathan Eovaldi (elbow) threw a bullpen Thursday that went well, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.Eovaldi is working his way back from right posterior elbow inflammation that landed him on the 15-day injured list Aug. 10. The right-hander resumed playing catch last week and is progressing more slowly than anticipated after initially being expected to potentially miss just the 15-day minimum. The 36-year-old could soon be cleared to face live batters and begin a rehab assignment.
