Schmidt relieved starter Jordan Montgomery in the fourth inning and allowed an inherited runner to score on a sacrifice fly but rebounded to retire eight of nine batters faced. His one mistake resulted in a Bobby Dalbec home run that became the difference in the game. The 26-year-old pitched well Sunday and should maintain a long-relief spot moving forward despite the loss.
