Lowe is out of the lineup for Pittsburgh's game against St. Louis on Friday.

Lowe will sit out Friday's series opener as the Cardinals send southpaw Quinn Mathews to toe the slab. Nick Gonzales will move over to second base and bat fifth for the Pirates.
