Adam was recalled from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Adam was called up as the 29th man for Friday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, and he made his first major-league appearance since May 9. He struck out three in a perfect relief inning and will provide an extra arm in the Cubs' bullpen late in the season.
