Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Gets start in preseason opener
Lloyd carried the ball four times for 13 yards in Thursday's 28-9 preseason loss to the Steelers.
With Josh Jacobs (groin) sidelined, Lloyd got the start for the Packers but saw limited snaps alongside other members of the first unit like QB Jordan Love. Jacobs' status this season is clouded due to off-field issues, and nagging injuries are par for the course with him, so the identity of Green Bay's RB2 holds more importance than usual. Lloyd appears to be getting the first crack at securing the role, but he'll need to prove he can stay on the field -- he's played just one NFL game since being taken in the third round of the 2024 draft.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Packers exercising caution with workload
GM Brian Gutekunst said Thursday that the Packers continue to be "pretty cautious" with Lloyd in the early stages of training camp, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports.
A 2024 third-round pick, Lloyd has made only one appearance as a pro due to a cascade of health concerns through his first two seasons. Despite entering training camp at full health, as coach Matt LaFleur told Ryan Wood of USA Today last Wednesday, Lloyd so far has displayed his speed and explosiveness, including running a seam route 25 yards downfield earlier this week. With Emanuel Wilson moving on in free agency in the offseason, Lloyd's main competition for the No. 2 RB job behind starter Josh Jacobs (groin) is Chris Brooks, who currently resides on the active/non-football injury list due to a hamstring issue.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Being ramped up at camp
Lloyd enters training camp at full health, but Packers head coach Matt LaFleur said Wednesday that the team will "gradually" ramp him up for the season due to the running back's past injury history, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports.
LaFleur said Lloyd won't necessarily be on a rep count, but it sounds like Green Bay will take some extra precautions with the 2024 third-round pick's workload, at least during the early stages of training camp. Wood reports that Lloyd took part in team drills on Wednesday, seemingly without any restrictions. With Chris Brooks (undisclosed) beginning camp on the active/non-football injury list, Lloyd currently has a path to work as the unquestioned No. 2 backfield option behind Josh Jacobs and build some early momentum.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Taking part in OTAs
Lloyd (calf/hamstring) is participating in OTAs on Wednesday, Weston Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports.
Lloyd missed the entire 2025 season due to a hamstring injury suffered during the preseason, and then a calf issue he sustained while rehabbing. That said, Green Bay had left the window open for Lloyd to make a potential postseason return. The 2024 third-round pick is now heading into Year 3 with only one career regular-season appearance under his belt, so his focal task this offseason will be to prove he can remain healthy. Lloyd did not take any team reps Wednesday, per Ryan Wood of USA Today, so at this stage the Packers may still be taking a cautious approach to his activity level.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Returns to IR
The Packers placed Lloyd (hamstring) on injured reserve Friday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports.
Lloyd temporarily came off injured reserve Wednesday, but he will now return to IR to keep the 24-year-old eligible to return for the playoffs. Emanuel Wilson is the only fully healthy running back for the Packers heading into Week 16 against the Bears, as Josh Jacobs (knee/ankle) and Chris Brooks (chest) are both questionable for Saturday night.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Not practicing
Lloyd (calf/hamstring) didn't practice Wednesday.
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur recently hinted that Lloyd is unlikely to play this season. The running back injured his calf while rehabbing from a hamstring injury and then tweaked the hamstring once his calf got better. That's about how things have gone for Lloyd through two pro seasons.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Ruled out, unsurprisingly
Lloyd (hamstring) is officially ruled out for Saturday's road game against the Bears, Wes Hodkiewicz of the Packers' official site reports.
Lloyd came off IR temporarily on Wednesday, as part of Green Bay's reported plan to place him back on IR, to make it possible for the 2024 third-round pick to get healthy in time for a return during the playoffs. With Josh Jacobs (knee/ankle) and No. 3 back Chris Brooks (chest) both officially questionable to face Chicago, Emanuel Wilson is the only fully healthy member of the Packers' backfield.

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Comes off IR temporarily
The Packers activated Lloyd (calf/hamstring) from injured reserve Wednesday, per the NFL's transaction log.
According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, this move is merely procedural so Green Bay can place him back on IR with the aim to get him back in the playoffs at some point. If said transaction occurs before Saturday's contest at Chicago, Lloyd would be eligible to return as soon as the divisional round. For the time being, though, the Packers will roll with the combination of Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks (chest) behind No. 1 RB Josh Jacobs (knee/ankle).

Packers' MarShawn Lloyd: Not in line for activation
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur implied Tuesday that Lloyd (calf/hamstring) won't be activated this week and will stay on injured reserve for the remainder of the season, Ryan Wood of USA Today reports. "I'm not going to say no," LaFleur said, when asked about Lloyd potentially returning. "But I think you can use deductive reasoning on that one."
The Packers placed Lloyd on IR with a designation to return in late August, after the 24-year-old running back sustained a hamstring injury during the preseason. Lloyd then suffered a calf injury while rehabbing his hamstring, but he made enough progress for the Packers to open up his 21-day practice window Dec. 1. After turning in five straight limited practices, Lloyd tweaked his hamstring again, resulting in him being held out of the Packers' most recent session last Friday. Though Lloyd's window won't officially close until early next week, his latest setback seemingly ends any hope that he had of making a late-season comeback. Lloyd will wrap up his second NFL season having appeared in just one career game, which came back in Week 2 of the 2024 campaign.
