Top Ugo Amadi News

  • Saints' Ugo Amadi: Staying in New Orleans

Amadi re-signed with the Saints on a one-year deal Monday.

The slot cornerback enjoyed his best season in 2024, recording career highs in tackles (65), solo tackles (52), sacks (2.0) and pass breakups (seven). Amadi got his chance in late October when Paulson Adebo went down with a season-ending broken femur, and he kept his spot the rest of the way. Adebo signed with the Giants earlier in March, so Amadi should at least get a chance to compete for a role with the Saints this summer.

  • Saints' Ugo Amadi: Logs 65 tackles in 2024

Amadi amassed 65 tackles (52 solo), including 2.0 sacks, and seven passes defended while appearing in 11 regular-season games for New Orleans in 2024.

Amadi wasn't expected to be an impact player in the Saints' secondary this season, but he was brought up from the practice squad in late October after starting cornerback Paulson Adebo suffered a season-ending broken femur. Amadi slotted in as the team's primary nickelback for the rest of the season. The 27-year-old totaled more than 60 tackles for the first time in his career and over 50 tackles for the first time his 2021 campaign with Kansas City. He also tallied the first two sacks of his career. Amadi is slated to become an unrestricted free agent this coming offseason, though it wouldn't be surprising if he comes back to compete for a depth role with the Saints in 2025.

  • Saints' Ugo Amadi: Nice day in close loss

Amadi recorded seven tackles (five solo) including 1.0 sacks and a pass defensed during Sunday's 20-19 loss versus the Commanders.

Amadi extended his streak of games with seven-plus tackles to five Sunday, and he extended his streak of games with a pass breakup to three. He's on the fringes of the IDP map going into a Week 16 matchup at Green Bay.

  • Saints' Ugo Amadi: Tallies eight tackles vs. Big Blue

Amadi registered eight tackles (six solo) and two pass defenses in Sunday's 14-11 win over the Giants.

Amadi co-led the Saints in tackling Sunday with Demario Davis. Amadi played sparingly in the first half of the regular season, but he's played at least 52 defensive snaps over his last four outings and has logged 34 tackles (26 solo) and four pass defenses over that span.

  • Saints' Ugo Amadi: Leading tackler Week 13

Amadi recorded nine tackles (eight solo) and one pass defended during Sunday's 21-14 loss to the Rams.

Amadi tallied at least eight tackles for the third game in a row, finishing with the Saints' team-high figure in this category. The 5-foot-9 defensive back has taken on an increased role since Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) was traded to Washington on Nov. 5. Amadi has also played at least 90 percent of offensive snaps in each game since taking over as New Orleans' top nickelback. He should remain productive so long as he remains in this role moving forward.

  • Saints' Ugo Amadi: Continues to produce

Amadi recorded nine total tackles (four solo) in Sunday's 35-14 win over the Browns.

Amadi has taken full advantage of his increased opportunities since Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) was traded to the Commanders on Nov. 5, tallying 18 total tackles, including three tackles for loss, across New Orleans' last two games. He appears to have secured the Saints' starting slot corner position and is expected to line up alongside Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry in the secondary as the season progresses.

  • Saints' Ugo Amadi: Capitalizes on opportunity Sunday

Amadi logged nine tackles (all solo), including three for loss, in Sunday's 20-17 Week 10 win against Atlanta.

With Marshon Lattimore (hamstring) traded to Washington last Tuesday, Amadi logged 100 percent of New Orleans' defensive snaps for the first time this season. He played well, finishing with a season-high nine stops, including three tackles for loss. Amadi also made a huge play on the final snap of the game, making a nice tackle of Ray-Ray McCloud to keep the wideout in bounds and force the clock to expire to ensure a narrow Saints victory.

  • Saints' Ugo Amadi: Returns to Big Easy

Amadi signed a contract with the Saints on Tuesday.

Amadi spent 2023 with New Orleans, serving in a depth capacity in the secondary while also contributing on special teams. He'll likely fill a similar role in 2024.

  • Saints' Ugo Amadi: Ready to play

Amadi (knee) is active Sunday against the Packers.

Amadi was able to get in limited practices Thursday and Friday, leading up to him taking the field Sunday. He should continue his role of chipping in on special teams.
