The Cowboys signed Evans to their active roster from their practice squad Saturday.
Dallas had elevated Evans from the practice squad each of the previous three weeks, so it was necessary for the team to sign him to the active roster in order for him to suit up Week 11. Evans played on a season-high 46 percent of the Cowboys' defensive snaps last Sunday against the Giants, tallying two assisted tackles. His role as a depth linebacker is especially important with the news that Leighton Vander Esch (neck) won't return this season.

The 2018 first-round pick recorded 159 tackles, including two sacks, four passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble with the Falcons last season, and he could see action for the Cowboys soon due to injuries to starters Leighton Vander Esch (neck) and Damone Clark (shoulder). Evans requested his release from the Eagles' practice squad in September to consider other opportunities, and it appears he'll soon have one in Dallas.

Evans appeared in all 17 games and posted a career-high 160 tackles during his first season with Atlanta. He had a stretch from Weeks 3 through 15 during which he recorded at least 10 tackles in 10 of 12 games, including a 15-stop performance against Pittsburgh in Week 13. Evans' contract was for only one season, so he'll likely test free agency after his stellar campaign, though a return to Atlanta could be in the cards if the Falcons are willing to offer the 2018 first-round pick a multi-year deal.
