Grizzlies' Jaylen Wells: Undergoes successful surgery
The Grizzlies announced Tuesday that Wells (toe) underwent a successful procedure to stabilize his right great toe and will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 campaign.
Wells won't return this season after undergoing a procedure to repair a tendon avulsion fracture, though he is expected to make a full recovery ahead of the 2026-27 campaign. The 22-year-old appeared in 69 regular-season games in his sophomore season, starting all of them and finishing with averages of 12.5 points, 3.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 0.1 blocks and 0.9 steals while shooting 43.1 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from deep across 26.4 minutes per contest.

Wells has been diagnosed with a tendon avulsion fracture in his right great toe and will undergo a procedure for stabilization purposes.
The Grizzlies will likely update Wells' timetable after he undergoes the toe procedure, but with just a little over two weeks left in the regular season, this will almost assuredly end Wells' 2025-26 campaign. Rayan Rupert, DeJon Jarreau and Jahmai Mashack will help fill the void in Wells' absence.

Wells exited Monday's 146-107 loss to the Hawks with 10:23 remaining in the fourth quarter due to right foot soreness and was unable to return. He finished with four points (2-4 FG, 0-1 3Pt), two rebounds and two assists across 20 minutes.
Shortly after Wells' departure, the Grizzlies labeled him doubtful to return, and he unsurprisingly never checked back in while the game had already descended into garbage time. His status will be worth monitoring ahead of Wednesday's game against the Spurs. If the second-year wing is forced to miss time, Rayan Rupert, DeJon Jarreau and Tyler Burton could all be candidates to absorb some of his minutes.
